Summary:

We're looking for a talented Senior Privacy Counsel to join our Legal team. The Legal team at Anaconda keeps the company ahead of legal and regulatory risk while enabling us to move fast and build boldly. We advise across product, engineering, commercial, and operations, and we own the legal frameworks that let Anaconda grow with integrity. We build together, sharing context early and collaborating across functions so that legal is a partner in the business, not a bottleneck.

As our first full-time privacy attorney, you'll own Anaconda's privacy legal and operations function end to end. You'll assess what exists, prioritize what matters, and modernize a program built to scale with an AI company. This role reports to the VP of Legal, Product, Privacy and AI and has meaningful autonomy from day one.

What You'll Do:
  • Own Anaconda's privacy legal function as the primary internal counsel, advising Legal, Product, Engineering, and Commercial teams on GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and applicable U.S. state privacy laws to keep us compliant and confident.
  • Lead privacy operations end to end, including maintaining the data map and ROPAs, running DPIAs, managing DSR escalations and breach response, and directing our external DPO relationship.
  • Build and maintain the commercial privacy infrastructure, including DPA positions, negotiation playbooks, and sub-processor notification processes, to support the sales team and enterprise customer requirements.
  • Drive privacy-by-design for Anaconda's AI developer platform, contributing to AI governance frameworks, advising on AI vendor contracts, and developing processes to handle AI-generated DSRs.
  • Develop and operationalize internal privacy policies on data minimization, retention, and classification, and build training programs that embed privacy awareness across the organization.
  • Update and manage external-facing privacy documentation, including the privacy notice, cookie notice, and internal privacy hub, keeping them current as the product and regulatory landscape evolves.
Your impact will be measured through:
  • Privacy program maturity and coverage - the program is current, documented, and defensible across regulatory requirements and enterprise customer scrutiny.
  • Operational scale -  privacy processes run reliably without requiring legal escalation for routine matters, and the function scales through tooling rather than headcount.
  • Enterprise readiness - Anaconda can demonstrate an advanced privacy program to enterprise customers and partners as part of vendor qualification and commercial relationships.
  • Privacy culture - employees understand their privacy obligations and operate accordingly, reducing reactive firefighting for the Legal team.

What You Need:
  • JD and active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 8+ years of experience spanning both privacy legal counsel and privacy program operations, with demonstrated ownership across both tracks.
  • Proven experience building or meaningfully modernizing a privacy compliance program, including assessing gaps and leading remediation.
  • Hands-on operational experience with GDPR and CCPA/CPRA, including running DSARs, managing breach response, and working with sub-processor processes.
  • Direct experience using at least one enterprise privacy platform (such as Transcend, OneTrust, or Osano) in daily work, not just overseeing it.
  • Working knowledge of AI systems and data practices, sufficient to contribute meaningfully to AI privacy governance and advise on AI vendor contracts.
  • Background with B2B or developer-facing products and familiarity with enterprise customer privacy requirements.
What Will Make You Stand Out:
  • Experience at a startup or pre-IPO company where you built privacy infrastructure with limited resources and no team beneath you, or equivalent ownership of an under-resourced program at a larger organization.
  • Experience working at the intersection of privacy and security — has partnered closely with security teams on shared challenges such as vendor assessments, incident response, or data governance, and understands how privacy and security programs need to work together in an enterprise environment.
  • Direct experience with Transcend, which reduces ramp time significantly given our current tooling.
  • CIPP/E and/or CIPP/US certification.
  • Experience in an open-source, AI, or data science-oriented company where privacy intersects directly with platform and product decisions.
  • You embody our values: "Curious by Default", "Build Together", "Own It", and "Lead with Guts and Heart", and our behaviors: Clarity, Care and Candor.
  • You care deeply about fostering an environment where people of all backgrounds and experiences can flourish.
Why You'll Like Working Here:
  • You'll thrive in a high-performance environment where results are recognized and rewarded
  • Your work directly contributes to shaping the future of data science, machine learning, and AI in the enterprise.
  • You'll work alongside a collaborative team that values diverse, thoughtful discussion, clarity and candor.
  • You'll be supported by a culture that puts employees first - with flexible hours, a fully remote setup, and a genuine commitment to your wellbeing and growth.
