Contractor Role: Operator & Application Engineer
Location: Loveland, CO (Remote candidates will be considered)
Travel: Up to 25% domestic and international
Contract Duration: Through end of 2025
Compensation: $25/hour contract
Full-time (40 hrs/week)
Role Summary
We are seeking full-time contractors to support both 24/7 monitoring operations of our first-of-a-kind steam-generating heat pump at New Belgium Brewery, and assist with application engineering tasks that support our commercial team.
Operator responsibilities are the top priority. Contractors must respond immediately to any alarms or alerts during their shift—this takes precedence over all other work. When not actively responding to operations, contractors will support application engineering tasks described below.
At the end of the contract, high-performing individuals may be considered for full-time employment.
Primary Responsibilities
Operator (Priority Role – New Belgium Pilot System):
- Monitor real-time operations of the industrial heat pump system via dashboard interface (remote and/or on-site).
- Respond immediately to alarms or irregular behavior, including control system issues, hardware malfunctions, or other anomalies.
- Escalate issues to AtmosZero engineers as needed and assist with remote troubleshooting.
- Follow shift schedule, including potential night and weekend hours.
- Support data collection, testing protocols, and operational checklists under engineer supervision.
Application Engineering Support:
- Analyze customer utility data and process parameters to evaluate technical fit for Boiler 2.0 deployments.
- Run simulations and techno-economic analyses to support sales engagements and customer discussions.
- Participate in customer calls as a technical contributor to answer questions and tailor system proposals.
- Collaborate with internal engineering and commercial teams to support design assumptions, integration planning, and system configuration.
- Document and communicate findings through technical briefs and analysis summaries.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, or related engineering field.
- Completion of coursework in thermodynamics and/or heat transfer.
- High attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibility during monitoring shifts.
- Ability to work independently and react quickly to operational alerts.
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
- Flexible schedule availability (including some nights and weekends).
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with thermal or mechanical systems (in labs, internships, or industry).
- Familiarity with P&ID diagrams and industrial equipment (boilers, chillers, heat pumps).
- Proficiency in Excel-based modeling, EES, REFPROP, or similar engineering tools.
- 1–2 years of experience in application engineering, systems analysis, or technical sales a plus.
Position Notes
- This is a contractor role, paid hourly.
- No additional benefits (e.g., healthcare, 401k, PTO) are included.
- Remote monitoring is possible for certain shifts, but some on-site presence may be required.
- Contractors will be considered for full-time roles upon successful contract completion.
