AtScale

Engineering Manager (Scala)

The Mission

AtScale is the semantic layer for modern data and AI. We bridge the gap between complex cloud data platforms—like Snowflake, Databricks, and Google BigQuery—and the business users who need consistent, AI-ready analytics. We are looking for an Engineering Manager (Scala) to help us redefine how the world handles business intelligence by leading the teams responsible for our core query engine and intelligent aggregates.

The Impact You’ll Make

  • Lead and empower a globally distributed engineering team across the U.S., Latin America, and Europe, providing the structure, context, and support necessary for their success.
  • Drive technical excellence and shipping velocity by enforcing best practices for agile processes, architecture reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions.
  • Bridge the gap between product and execution by collaborating with Product and Program Management to define requirements, track cross-team dependencies, and manage the project lifecycle in an environment without dedicated Scrum Masters.

Why You’ll Love It Here

  • Ownership & Autonomy: You will own the outcomes for high-visibility teams, serving as a key leader in a culture built on transparency and professional trust.
  • Innovation-First: Work at the intersection of AI and data middleware, helping to optimize query speed and cost through sophisticated aggregation logic.
  • Culture of Trust: Enjoy a flexible, remote-friendly environment that values organized, clear communication and practical, production-oriented engineering.

Who You Are

  • A Proven Leader: You have 8+ years of engineering experience, including 3+ years managing or leading globally distributed teams.
  • A Pragmatic Technologist: You possess a "full-stack mindset" and value shipping production-ready code. While our engine is in Scala, you are an expert in SQL and relational databases, and are comfortable navigating Kubernetes-based architectures.
  • A Master Communicator: You are highly organized and capable of translating complex technical blockers into clear progress reports for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Timezone Aligned: You are based in or able to work core East Coast (ET) hours (10am – 5pm) to facilitate global collaboration.
  • Note: We are looking for practical managers; candidates who have focused their careers solely on being architects may not be the best fit for this specific leadership style.

The Perks

  • Competitive salary + equity.
  • Unlimited PTO and comprehensive benefits.
  • The chance to shape the future of a global leader in AI-ready analytics.
