Role Overview 

The Data Lakehouse Lead is responsible for the technical direction, evolution and outcomes of the organization's shared Data Lakehouse. 

The role ensures that data is made available through well-designed, meaningful and reliable data models and products that can support Analytics, AI and other data-driven use cases. 

The role combines strong Data Engineering expertise with technical leadership, planning and stakeholder alignment. It works closely with Analytics teams, technical and business stakeholders to understand priorities, agree objectives, plan the work required, and ensure the Lakehouse evolves in a way that delivers meaningful value. 

This is a senior technical leadership role combining Data Engineering, data modelling, planning and stakeholder alignment. 

The role is responsible not only for how the Data Lakehouse is engineered, but also for whether the resulting data is well structured, meaningful and useful to the organization. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Define and evolve the technical design and data modelling approach for the Data Lakehouse. 

• Lead the implementation of shared datasets and data products. 

• Establish meaningful and reusable conceptual, logical and physical data models that accurately represent the business and support analytical use cases. 

• Define patterns for data ingestion, modelling, transformation, storage and consumption. 

• Translate business and analytical needs into clear data objectives and engineering priorities. 

• Lead planning of the Data Lakehouse roadmap, balancing priorities, available capacity, dependencies and technical needs. 

• Align objectives, scope, and expected outcomes with Analytics teams and other stakeholders. 

• Ensure planned work delivers agreed outcomes rather than simply completing technical activities. 

• Review proposals for new or evolving shared datasets and determine how they should fit into the wider data model and Lakehouse. 

• Ensure shared data products meet agreed standards for quality, reliability, documentation, lineage and usability. 
• Guide Data Engineers working on the Lakehouse and provide technical leadership on complex engineering problems. 

• Identify opportunities to improve the usability, scalability, performance, maintainability and cost efficiency of the platform. 

• Ensure the Lakehouse evolves coherently rather than through isolated datasets and pipelines. 

What you'll need:

• Strong professional experience in Data Engineering and modern data platforms. 

• Strong understanding of data modelling, including the ability to design data structures that are meaningful, coherent and reusable. 

• Strong understanding of data quality, metadata, lineage and data governance. 

• Experience designing and implementing data pipelines, transformations and data products at scale. 

• Strong understanding of modern Lakehouse architectures and data engineering patterns. 

• Experience translating business and analytical requirements into data solutions. 

• Strong planning and prioritization skills, with the ability to align stakeholders around clear objectives and deliverables. 

• A results-oriented approach, with a focus on measurable outcomes rather than technical activity alone. 

• Ability to provide technical leadership to Data Engineers and collaborate effectively with Analytics, AI, Discovery and Delivery teams. 

• Strong architectural and problem-solving skills, combined with pragmatic decision-making. 

• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain data modelling and technical decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
