About the role

  • The Accountant I’s function is to support the Finance Department with routine duties and non-routine duties with emphasis on general ledger management, account reconciliations, journal entry postings, and account analysis. Working with general supervision, the Accountant I perform accounting duties including maintaining and analyzing accounting records and preparing accounting schedules and reports. 
  • This is a Remote role from home, the candidate must provide a reliable strong Internet service to be able to keep connectivity during work hours. 

What you'll do

  • As a Accounting professional, we are looking to see best practices for working hybrid/ remote with security and be able to manage confidential information.
  • Process invoices for payment which includes accurately entering an invoice information, and properly coding into the general ledger system, obtaining invoice approvals within accounting software (Sage-Intacct).
  •  Ensure invoices are paid on a timely basis while not duplicating payments. Effectively monitor and follow up on invoices placed on hold/draft for future submission.
  • Email payment documentation to appropriate vendors.
  • Serve as a point of contact for vendors and internal clients for inquiries related to accounts payable activity. Analyze and research AP discrepancies. 
  • Obtain and reconcile vendor statements monthly. Maintain monthly reconciliation record. Perform other accounting functions as they arise (e.g., ad hoc reporting).
  • Support year-end audit functions. Request W9 information for new vendor maintenance to properly setup for payment of invoices.
  • Responsible for monthly Rent process. Perform month-end Rent reconciliation and maintain the rent schedules.
  • Maintain up to date tenants’ information in conjunction with Associate Director of Operations and Subsidy Organizations.    
  • Ensure expense allocations to grants and programs are accurate and reasonable.
  • Prepares journal entries, reconciles ledger accounts and ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and organizational policies, procedures and contracts.
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining financial records and ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded.
  • Complete daily, monthly and quarterly responsibilities in accordance with Finance Calendar.
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of year-end audit work papers.
  • Perform special projects and ad hoc analyses as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • Familiarity with specialized nonprofit industry or Healthcare accounting practices, reporting requirements and procedures.
  • Proficient in grants expense management.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle exposure to sensitive information.
  • Exceptional ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in data entry and analysis, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills including written, verbal, and telephone communication.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Proficiency in Sage-Intacct or similar ERP.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required, including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to meet the physical and training requirements of the position.

Schedule:
Full Time (Remote) 40 Hours per week
Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
