Medical Lead

About the Medical Lead Position

As Medical Lead you will support a variety of business functions to ensure successful strategy implementation and efficient operation of the medical team. You will be responsible for liaising with healthcare professionals to develop scientifically and clinically accurate medical content. The Medical Lead is expected to consistently represent as the medical subject matter expert within the organization to ensure scientific accuracy, fair balance, and quality.  

In this role, you will collaborate cross-functionally to plan and execute medical education and communications programs. This includes, but is not limited to, medical education programs, advisory boards, and publications. 

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and review medical content to ensure it is accurate, balanced, high quality, and aligned with client objectives
  • Get up to speed on new therapeutic areas and understand the science, clinical landscape, and key issues
  • Review and interpret clinical data and scientific literature, and identify what matters most for the project
  • Use scientific knowledge and judgment to help shape content, messaging, and program approaches
  • Work closely with Account and other team members to plan and deliver medical communications programs
  • Take an active role in client and healthcare professional meetings as the medical expert on the team
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, healthcare professionals, and other project partners
  • Work directly with faculty and other experts to gather their input and incorporate it into program development
  • Conduct literature searches and synthesize findings to support content development
  • Manage medical and compliance reviews through client review platforms (e.g. Veeva)
  • Coordinate ethics, accreditation (e.g. CFPC, Royal College, CCCEP) and other external submissions, where needed
  • Develop clear, thoughtful written communications for clients, faculty, and other stakeholders
  • Help build project timelines, anticipate potential issues, and flag risks early
  • Coordinate and review work from external contractors, where needed

 

You will be successful in this role if you have:

Must haves:

  • At least 1–2 years of experience in medical communications
  • An advanced degree in health sciences (e.g., MSc, PhD, or equivalent)
  • An ability to take complex information, make sense of it, and communicate it clearly without losing the important details
  • Strong critical thinking skills and a willingness to bring your own perspective, rather than simply taking information or direction at face value
  • The ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities and stay organized when things move quickly or change
  • An ability to work well with different types of people, from clients and healthcare professionals to writers, designers, and account teams
  • High standards for your own work, with an eye for the details that make the difference between something being fine and being really good
  • The confidence to ask questions, speak up when something doesn’t seem right, and ask for help when you need it
  • Adaptability, openness to feedback, and a genuine interest in continuing to learn and get better at what you do
  • Strong client-service mindset, with a genuine interest in understanding what clients need and delivering a great experience

Nice to haves:

  • Previous experience working in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience writing scientific publications
  • Bilingualism in English and French

 

 

What We Offer

  • Starting base salary of 70,000 CAD to 80,000 CAD, proportionate with experience and qualifications 
  • Annual performance bonuses dependent on company and team performance

  • Three weeks of vacation in addition to two weeks company shut down in December and half-day Summer Fridays from Victoria Day to Labour Day

The Interview Process

  • A preliminary virtual interview with the Medical Director and an Account Director. During this interview, we will learn more about your background and experience, share details about the position, and answer any questions you may have.
  • Successful candidates can expect a second in-person interview, which will include the Medical Director and a Business Unit Director. At this interview, candidates will have an opportunity to give a 5-minute slide-based presentation on the topic of their choice
