Position Summary: 

The Director of Strategic Communications & Coalitions Media will streamline the Communications team’s short and long-term planning while ensuring we are pursuing an aggressive, inclusive strategy that prioritizes communication to key coalitions in the run-up to the 2026 midterms and 2028 presidential election cycles.


Reporting to the Communications Director, the Director will be tasked with managing key elements of our internal workflow to hold the operation accountable for meeting key deadlines and targets; developing and executing a robust coalitions media strategy to ensure our message reaches target audiences that we must reinforce and build support with in advance of critical election cycles; and serve as a chief spokesperson on issue areas that disproportionately impact key constituencies, including voting rights, litigation, democracy, and more.


Responsibilities: 

  • 1. Strategic Planning
    • Design and implement systems to improve internal workflow, information sharing, and accountability across the War Room, which encompasses the Communications, Research, and Mobilization teams.
    • Drive phased strategic planning for major cross-team projects, tracking progress and identifying gaps.
    • Oversee the approval of outbound materials using excellent political judgement and editing skills, and ensure that content aligns with core messaging.
    • Support the department’s budget and administrative management and triage team bandwidth to ensure staff are resourced for urgent priorities.
    • Serve as a key connector across the War Room to ensure messaging meets strategic goals, reaches targeted audiences, and drives electoral impact.
  • 2. Coalitions Media
    • Develop and implement a strategy to build relationships with key constituencies media outlets that speak to core audiences, including but not limited to Spanish-language, Black, AANHPI, Native American, LGBTQ+, men’s outlets, and more.
    • Serve as a senior on-record spokesperson to coalition media outlets, as well as to mainstream media outlets on issues areas including but not limited to voting rights, litigation, democracy, and community engagement.
    • Work in close collaboration with the Messaging team to identify and book diverse surrogates for TV, radio, and print. The Director will also serve as a spokesperson across these mediums.
    • Leverage rapid response moments to drive community-specific and tailored pitches to coalition media.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the department and the DNC's mission.


Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in political communications, including work in high-pressure environments (Campaign, Hill, or Committee experience strongly preferred).
  • Highly organized leader with the ability to manage competing deadlines, streamline systems, and execute on large-scale projects.
  • Deep understanding of diverse constituency media landscape.
  • Experience as an on-the-record spokesperson. On-camera experience is a plus.
  • Excellent political judgment and ability to maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


Travel: The Director of Strategic Communications & Coalitions Media position will require travel, which could be up to 20% of the time.


Salary: The starting salary for the Director of Strategic Communications & Coalitions Media position is $120,000.00, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position, that may require work on weekends.
