Senior Data Analyst

We are seeking a remote Senior Data Analyst to join the team.


Your Primary Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise and Execution

Primary responsibilities will fall within the Technical Expertise and Execution focus area, as part of the core technical team within the Remediation Service Line.  Additional assignments will include providing technical support to projects across multiple service lines including Sediment & Risk Assessment, Business Services Group, Allocation & Litigation Support, and Potentially Responsible Parties. Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting in the management of EHS Support’s centralized environmental data warehouse.
  • Assisting with development of standards and procedures for data management process improvements.
  • Developing agency-specific electronic data deliverables to comply with data submission requirements.
  • Actively communicating and coordinating with project managers, laboratories, and/or other team members to acquire data packages of varying formats to be imported to a centralized database system.
  • Obtaining, cleaning, reviewing, synthesizing, and visualizing environmental data in an organized and concise manner.
  • Generating and documenting reproducible scripts and tools to improve data cleaning and analysis processes.
  • Running, modifying, and developing reports and queries to ensure data quality and accuracy.
  • Developing clear, technically accurate data visualization work products to support analysis and presentation of multiple types of datasets.
  • Assisting in GIS and spatial data analysis as needed via custom R or other script generation for figure, table, and web map creation.
  • Supporting the preparation of expert reports for litigation purposes and preparation of products for expert testimony.
  • Acting as an advisor in developing budgets and proposals for large scale analytical chemistry, geoscience, and data management projects.
  • Coordinating with internal and external clients to provide data management solutions.
  • Engaging in technical writing to report findings and interpretations of data analysis to support investigation objectives.
  • Enhancing the technical capabilities of the team by expanding the knowledge base, improving internal processes, and developing innovative technical approaches.

  • Travel, as needed based on client and project needs. Travel is not expected to be a significant component of this role but may be necessary at times for client meetings or other project needs.

Clients & Growth

  • Client interaction, as required on projects.
  • Assist, as needed, in marketing existing and new clients, including site visits and general business development support as it relates to any of the above-mentioned activities.
  • Prepare proposals, scopes of work, and project summaries to support business development activities as appropriate for the projects you are involved in and in alignment with the Service Line goals.
  • Attend client meetings to assist in business development.
  • Work with client managers to expand our relationships to your contacts.
  • Participate and support business development activities and develop client relationships.

Team & Culture Management

  • Strive to build strong working relationships with EHS Support staff.
  • Become proficient with tools that support the EHS Support virtual model (Project Maps, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, OneNote, etc.).
  • Communicate effectively with all members of project team(s).
  • Demonstrate awareness of scope, schedule, and budget of projects and work toward project benchmarks, as appropriate, in your role as either a technical resource, task manager or project manager.
  • Collaborate with other individuals on the project to ensure project goals are met.

Operations & Administrative 

  • Complete timesheets, expense reports, invoice review and submittal within timeframe and framework of process to ensure timely payment by clients.
  • Understand project team structure and utilize the defined roles for operational efficiency including Technical Advisors and Project Assistants.


Required Competencies & Key Experience:

  • Demonstrated understanding of relational database concepts and principles.
  • 2+ years of experience managing and analyzing environmental chemistry datasets.
  • Experience maintaining and reporting data using EarthSoft’s EQuIS software (EDP and Professional).
  • Proficient in writing T-SQL queries and working in Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience analyzing environmental data, including robust understanding of Microsoft Excel (experience with R or other statistical software is preferred).
  • Ability to extract and analyze data from large data sources with differing structures.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and data quality.
  • Ability to think strategically and conceptually about environmental data and develop solutions to support project objectives.
  • Willingness to learn and gain technical expertise by working on multiple projects and with experts in technical areas of practice.


Education Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. in environmental science, biology, chemistry, engineering, geology, geography, database management, or related field.
