Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Data Team Lead / Data Architect to design, develop, and optimize our data ecosystem. Data is at the core of our decision-making, powering everything from customer insights to operational efficiency.

Our current infrastructure consists of MySQL production databases, a Postgres-based data warehouse, Pentaho ETL processes, and Tableau for data visualization. The ideal candidate will not only ensure the reliability of our existing systems but also own the technical architecture of our data platforms and guide us in modernizing our technology stack by implementing best practices in data engineering, pipeline automation, and scalable system design.

We are especially looking for a leader with solid technical knowledge and a strong sense of curiosity, eager to explore new ways of leveraging AI and large language models (LLMs) to deliver innovative, scalable business solutions.

You will manage and mentor a small but growing data team while collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, product, and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Strategy

    • Lead and mentor the data engineering and data science teams, fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous learning.
    • Define and execute the roadmap for the company’s data infrastructure and architecture modernization.
    • Partner with stakeholders to align data initiatives with business priorities and identify opportunities to apply AI solutions.
    • Serve as the primary data architect: define and evolve the organization’s data architecture, integration patterns, and technical standards across multiple systems.
    • Establish data modeling standards and design scalable schemas that support analytics, operational reporting, and machine learning.
    • Oversee the implementation of modern data platforms (warehouses, lakes, lakehouses) with a focus on performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Data Engineering & Architecture

    • Oversee the development, maintenance, and monitoring of ETL/ELT pipelines (currently powered by Pentaho) to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
    • Manage and optimize data warehouse architecture in Postgres, ensuring scalability and performance.
    • Supervise integration with MySQL production systems, maintaining data quality and minimizing downtime.

  • Modernization & Innovation

    • Evaluate and introduce modern data engineering tools and cloud-native technologies (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, modern ELT platforms).
    • Champion automation, CI/CD for data pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code approaches.
    • Explore and deploy AI and LLM-driven solutions to streamline data workflows and create new business value.
    • Propose and implement strategies for real-time and streaming data processing where relevant.

  • Analytics & Visualization

    • Collaborate with BI and analytics teams to deliver trusted, actionable insights through Tableau and potentially newer visualization tools.
    • Ensure data governance, security, and compliance best practices.

Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise

    • Proven experience managing production databases (MySQL, Postgres).
    • Strong background in ETL/ELT pipelines and workflow orchestration
    • Demonstrated expertise in data architecture: enterprise data modeling, data warehouse/lake design, and system integration.
    • Familiarity with Tableau and other BI/visualization tools.
    • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern data tools (dbt, Airflow, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Fivetran, etc.).
    • Experience applying AI/ML/LLM techniques to build scalable, real-world business solutions.
    • Advanced English proficiency, both written and spoken.
  • Leadership & Collaboration

    • 5+ years of experience in data engineering with at least 2+ years in a leadership or team lead role.
    • Strong ability to manage and mentor engineers, analysts, and cross-functional stakeholders.
    • A curious mindset with a track record of exploring and implementing innovative technologies.
    • Excellent communication skills to bridge technical and business discussions.
  • Preferred Experience

    • Previous experience in OTA, travel, or e-commerce industries.
    • Knowledge of real-time data streaming frameworks (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.).
    • Familiarity with data governance frameworks (GDPR, CCPA).

Why Join Us

  • Opportunity to work in the dynamic and growing travel industry.
  • Collaborate with a talented and passionate team.
  • Contribute to innovative products that enhance user experiences.
