International Battery Company, Inc.

Senior Electrode Manufacturing Engineer

Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled Electrode Engineering leader to support the development, scale-up, and deployment of electrode manufacturing systems for next-generation cell production. This role leads the deployment, integration, and ramp-up of electrode manufacturing equipment (mixing, coating, drying, calendaring, slitting) for high-volume lithium-ion production and will own the full lifecycle from process definition and vendor selection through commissioning and stable SOP operation.

You will collaborate closely with materials scientists, process engineering, and production teams to define process parameters, commission new equipment, and implement scalable electrode manufacturing solutions.

What you'll do

  • Translate pilot-line learnings into scalable process and equipment requirements for high-volume manufacturing
  • Define and establish process windows, cycle times, and yield targets for production systems
  • Own specification, selection, and commissioning of electrode equipment including mixing, coating, drying, calendaring, and slitting
  • Own equipment ramp from installation through stable SOP, delivering throughput, yield, and OEE targets
  • Identify process and equipment bottlenecks and drive root cause resolution during ramp and production
  • Use data-driven methods (SPC, Cp/Cpk, DOE) to optimize process performance and stability
  • Ensure alignment between material properties, process conditions, and equipment capability
  • Partner with equipment vendors to refine designs and improve performance for production requirements
  • Drive reduction of coating and web handling defects impacting yield and quality
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, facilities, automation, and quality to ensure integrated and manufacturable solutions
  • Support factory design, layout, and material flow for electrode production areas
  • Collaborate with vendors on equipment roadmaps aligned with MSN’s product roadmap
  • Work in low moisture dry room environments (<1.0% RH, -45°C dew point)
  • Comply with OSHA manual lifting guidelines (<50 lbs)
  • Effectively share results with global teams

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in lithium-ion battery manufacturing or related high-volume roll-to-roll processes
  • Deep hands-on expertise in electrode systems including mixing, coating, drying, calendaring, and slitting
  • Proven track record of leading equipment specifications, vendor engagement, commissioning, and ramp to high-volume production
  • Strong understanding of electrode fundamentals including slurry rheology, coating behavior, drying kinetics, and calendaring response
  • Demonstrated ability to scale processes from pilot or development into stable, high-yield, high-throughput manufacturing
  • Experience driving technical decisions across cross-functional teams (R&D, facilities, automation, quality) in a manufacturing environment
  • 50% international travel

Nice To Have

  • Experience building or scaling a gigafactory or greenfield battery manufacturing facility
  • Experience influencing equipment design and working closely with global OEMs
  • Familiarity with dry room design, integration, and environmental controls
  • Experience with advanced or next-generation electrode technologies (e.g., dry electrode, high-loading systems)
  • Strong background in data-driven process control (SPC, Cp/Cpk, DOE) and yield optimization
