About Loop

Loop is a fast-growing FinTech high growth startup that enables businesses to seamlessly manage money around the world so our clients can access more markets, accelerate their growth and simplify their operations with the only truly cross-border banking platform. Loop is enabling the next generation of businesses to thrive around the world and we are looking for ambitious people to join our mission.

Hi, I'm Sarah, Chief of Staff, at Loop and I am hiring a Data Science Intern to help us turn data into better decisions. You'll work on real business problems across our fintech platform, using data to uncover insights, improve processes, and build tools that help our teams move faster.

We are hiring for both the Fall (September-December) and Winter (January-April) terms. Please let us know in your application which term(s) you are available for.

This role is an onsite position at our downtown Toronto office (Bay and Bloor).

Where You Come In

This is an opportunity for someone who loves solving problems with data and wants to see their work have an immediate impact. You'll work closely with teams across the business—including engineering, product, finance, operations, growth, and compliance—to answer important questions, automate reporting, and identify opportunities to improve how we operate.

As an intern, you won't be working on toy datasets or academic exercises. You'll have access to real business problems and the opportunity to build analyses, dashboards, predictive models, and automations that help shape decisions across the company.

What You'll Be Doing

Partner with teams across Loop to solve business problems using data, including but not limited to:

Data Analysis & Insights

  • Analyze customer, product, financial, and operational data to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Build dashboards and reports that help teams monitor KPIs and make better decisions.
  • Investigate business questions using SQL, spreadsheets, and Python.
  • Present findings in a clear and actionable way to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Machine Learning & AI

  • Clean, prepare, and validate datasets for modelling.
  • Evaluate model performance and recommend improvements.

Automation & Process Improvement

  • Build internal tools or scripts that improve operational efficiency.
  • Support experimentation by measuring outcomes and providing recommendations.

Cross-Functional Projects

  • Work alongside engineering, product, finance, growth, and operations on strategic initiatives.
  • Help define metrics that measure success across the business.
  • Support ad hoc analyses for leadership and special projects as needed.

Desired Qualities, Skills, and Experience

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
  • Comfortable working with data using SQL and Python.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Looker Studio, Tableau, Power BI, or similar is an asset.
  • Exposure to machine learning concepts is an asset.
  • Curious, proactive, and excited to solve ambiguous problems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical findings clearly.
  • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn quickly.
  • A genuine interest in startups and using data to drive business decisions.

What's in it for you?

  • Work on meaningful projects that directly influence company decisions.
  • Exposure to real-world fintech datasets and business challenges.
  • Opportunity to build machine learning, analytics, and automation projects that ship into production.
  • Mentorship from experienced leaders invested in your professional development.
  • Significant learning opportunities across product, engineering, operations, and finance.
  • A collaborative, high-performing team where your work is visible and valued.

What we offer
