Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced case manager to support military service members navigating the Medical Evaluation Board and Appeals process. This position manages all Duty and Non-Duty MEB cases from initiation through closure, serves as the primary liaison among the service member, unit leadership, medical headquarters, and the Office of Soldier Counsel, and ensures every case is documented, tracked, and escalated in strict compliance with suspense requirements.

The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of four years of direct experience with National Guard Bureau Medical Boards and Appeals processes, exceptional follow-through on case suspenses, and the interpersonal skills to guide service members through one of the most consequential administrative processes in their military career. Telework is not authorized.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create cases in the medical evaluation board case management system for all service members entering Duty or Non-Duty Medical Evaluation Board and Appeals processes within 10 business days of receipt
  • Maintain comprehensive MEB and Appeals records through detailed documentation; maintain a progress log on shared collaboration platforms visible to government leadership at all times
  • Provide service members with an overview of the disability evaluation process, boards, appeals process, and VA claims within 10 days of case initiation and on a follow-up basis throughout the process as needed
  • Serve as the primary liaison for service members; relay communication between the service member's unit, medical headquarters, and the Office of Soldier Counsel; ensure all documentation is received and uploaded in a timely manner
  • Monitor case progress through closure; follow up within 24 hours of any missed suspense with the service member
  • Provide case status updates to service members within 2 business days of request
  • Disseminate case findings to designated command and administrative personnel within 2 business days of receipt

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Minimum four (4) years experience with National Guard Bureau Medical Boards and Appeals processes — this is a disqualifying minimum requirement
  • Thorough working knowledge of the Integrated and Legacy Disability Evaluation System processes, MEB and PEB procedures, appeals timelines, and VA claims overview
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a NACI / Public Trust Security Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume caseload with consistent suspense compliance and zero missed follow-ups
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support service members navigating a complex and high-stakes process with professionalism and empathy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook/Exchange, Teams, SharePoint
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, meet deadlines, and control sensitive and confidential information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior military service or direct experience supporting the National Guard or Army Reserve
  • Currently active DoD Common Access Card (CAC) and/or existing favorable security clearance — candidates holding an active Secret clearance or higher fully meet and exceed the minimum requirement
  • Experience supporting DoD medical program administration in a military or government contracting environment
  • Familiarity with multiple DoD medical database and administrative systems
  • Prior direct experience with the MEB Prep case management system
  • Familiarity with Office of Soldier Counsel communication and documentation protocols
  • Prior experience as a military medical case manager, Warrior Transition Unit case manager, or equivalent role
  • Knowledge of how VA disability claims intersect with and follow the military disability evaluation process
