About the role

This is a senior, market-facing role. You will be responsible for establishing Seafarer's distribution network, underwriting a profitable book of yacht and marine hull business, and contributing directly to the commercial success and reputation of the business from launch. The ideal candidate will bring an established book of business, strong broker relationships, and the ambition to be the face of Seafarer Marine in the UK and EU market.

What you'll do

Establishing and Growing the Business

  • Lead the establishment of Seafarer Marine Limited's presence in the UK and EU market, building the broker distribution network from the ground up.
  • Proactively drive new business acquisition and retention of existing relationships, negotiating participation, pricing, and terms and conditions with brokers directly.
  • Ideally bring an existing portfolio of marine hull business and broker relationships that can be transitioned to Seafarer Marine Limited, providing an immediate foundation for the UK book.
  • Represent Seafarer Marine at broker meetings, marine industry events, and client engagements — acting as a credible and visible face of the business in the London Market.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with London Market wholesale brokers and their retail networks, expanding distribution beyond existing channels.
  • Act as the primary market-facing representative of Seafarer Marine Limited in the UK and EU — building the brand, establishing the business's reputation, and taking ownership of its commercial performance.

Underwriting

  • Underwrite new and renewal yacht and marine hull risks to meet top and bottom line targets, ensuring disciplined risk selection and pricing adequacy at all times.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, applying specialist technical expertise to standard and complex submissions alike, including managing referrals within agreed authority.
  • Monitor portfolio performance on an ongoing basis — analysing loss ratios, submission quality, and cycle trends — taking proactive steps to optimise the book.
  • Proactively manage capacity across the portfolio, ensuring appropriate participation levels and terms are maintained.
  • Maintain up-to-date market knowledge, including emerging risks, legal developments, and competitor activity across the UK and European marine market.

Compliance and Governance

  • Underwrite in line with the delegated authority framework, underwriting guidelines, and all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure consistent application of rating tools and pricing frameworks, maintaining accurate file records and a clear audit trail for all risks and transactions.
  • Contribute to the development of robust UK and EU policy wordings and endorsements, adapting the US-origin documentation for the local regulatory environment.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years’ experience in marine hull underwriting, with a demonstrable track record of building and underwriting a profitable book.
  • Established London Market broker relationships and a credible, recognised market presence.
  • Strong technical capability in risk assessment, pricing, and policy structuring, including the ability to design and implement robust policy wordings for the UK and EU market.
  • Experience working within a delegated authority framework — MGA, coverholder, or similar.
  • Experience across additional marine classes (commercial vessels, charter boats) would be advantageous, as would familiarity with Lloyd's Market reporting and bordereaux production.
  • CII qualified or equivalent preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience building a profitable book from scratch, ideally within an MGA or managing agency environment, with a portable portfolio of business and broker relationships.
  • Comfortable operating with autonomy in a lean, entrepreneurial environment — a self-starter with commercial drive and the ambition to help build a market-leading marine MGA.
  • Leadership ambition — someone who sees this as an opportunity to take genuine ownership of a market-leading marine proposition, with the drive and credibility to be its lead voice in the UK and EU market.
  • Good understanding of the UK and EU marine insurance legal and regulatory framework, including FCA requirements relevant to wholesale marine business.

Additional Information

Whilst this is a fully remote role, applicants should be located within reasonable travelling distance of London and able to attend in-person meetings.

You must live in the UK and be authorized to work in the UK without requirement of employment sponsorship/visa.
