Location: Remote (U.S.). Preference for candidates in Greater Detroit, Dallas-Fort Worth, Memphis, or Kansas City who can work hybrid.

The Role

NCD is looking for a Director, FP&A to build and lead the planning function. You will own the budget, forecast, long-range plan, and decision support across the company, and you will be the CFO's partner on capital planning, lender reporting, and new business. Expect to be a player-coach: you will build models yourself while you hire and develop the team. Finance at NCD already uses AI tools in its daily work, and you will decide where they can improve the planning process.

Summary

NCD earns its revenue as broker of record, program administrator, and administrator for its carrier partners, paid through commissions and administrative fees on premium. Results depend on member enrollment, persistency, distributor mix, and carrier terms. The business is growing and adding products, and the planning process has to grow with it. The Director, FP&A designs the planning process for a larger and more complex NCD and makes sure leadership has numbers it can act on.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning calendar: annual operating plan, rolling forecast, and three-year plan.
  • Design FP&A processes that scale: a fixed planning calendar, department ownership of inputs, version control, model documentation, and review controls.
  • Own the driver-based company model and the P&Ls by carrier program, product line, and distribution channel. Set the standard for analysis across Finance.
  • Run the monthly business review with the executive team: results, variances, and the actions that follow.
  • Own cash, liquidity, and debt capacity forecasting. Prepare lender and owner reporting and support financing discussions.
  • Evaluate new products, carrier programs, distributor agreements, and acquisitions. Build the case and present a recommendation.
  • Partner with the Data team on the metrics layer and dashboards Finance relies on. Set Finance's data priorities and decide what belongs in a model versus a BI tool.
  • Set how FP&A uses AI. Identify the recurring work that AI tools can take over or speed up, such as data pulls, reconciliations, lender and audit request packages, and first-draft commentary. Put those workflows in place and set the review standard for their output.
  • Select and implement a planning tool when the business needs one.
  • Hire, develop, and manage FP&A analysts.
  • Support the annual audit, valuations, and owner reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Must-Have Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a quantitative field.
  • 8+ years of experience in FP&A, investment banking, corporate development, or Big 4, including at least 3 years leading FP&A or planning at an operating company.
  • Has built or scaled FP&A processes at a growing company: put the planning calendar, forecast cadence, and reporting in place where they did not exist or no longer fit.
  • Expert financial modeling, including three-statement models, capital structure, and debt.
  • Experience presenting results and recommendations to executives, lenders, or investors.
  • Experience managing and developing analysts.
  • Data fluency: has worked closely with data or BI teams, can read SQL, and knows what reliable metric definitions look like.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 1-2 years in investment banking or at a Big 4 firm.
  • Experience in insurance distribution, an MGA or program administrator, healthcare, or another commission-based business.
  • Experience with credit facilities and lender reporting, acquisitions and integration, or preparing a company for its first audit.
  • Has selected and implemented a planning tool.
  • Hands-on SQL, and experience with BigQuery, dbt, Omni, or a similar analytics stack.
  • Has used AI tools to redesign a finance process, not only to speed up individual tasks.
  • MBA, CPA, or CFA.

What Success Looks Like in the First 90 to 180 Days

  • By 90 days: you have assessed the current models, planning calendar, and reporting, delivered a written plan for the FP&A function, and are running the monthly business review.
  • By 180 days: the annual plan runs on a set calendar with named department owners, a rolling forecast is in place, lender and owner reporting packages are standardized, and hiring for the team is underway.

NCD Benefits

  • Company-paid health, dental, life, and disability insurance
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Opportunity for professional development
  • Work from home allowance and support
  • Positive work environment
  • Remote, office-based flexibility within the United States of America

Equal Opportunity

NCD is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to building a team that reflects a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We believe our differences make us stronger and help us better serve our members, agents, partners, and each other.
