We are seeking a strategic, analytical, and results-oriented Director of Finance to help drive financial performance, enhance reporting and operational processes, and provide executive leadership with the insights needed to support the firm's continued growth.


Position Summary

The Director of Finance is responsible for leading the firm's financial reporting, operational finance, financial analysis, and strategic decision support. This role partners closely with executive leadership to provide timely financial insights, improve operational performance, and support data-driven decision-making across the firm. The ideal candidate combines strong financial acumen with a hands-on approach and enjoys building scalable processes, leveraging technology, and collaborating across departments to improve business performance.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  • Oversee the preparation and distribution of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages.
  • Develop and maintain executive dashboards and key performance indicators.
  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of financial reporting.
  • Present financial results, trends, and operational insights to executive leadership.
  • Support month-end and year-end reporting processes.


Financial Analysis

  • Analyze firm, office, practice group, client, and attorney performance.
  • Develop financial models to evaluate growth opportunities, compensation structures, and strategic initiatives.
  • Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analyses to support executive decision-making.
  • Monitor key financial and operational metrics and identify areas for improvement.

Business Operations

  • Partner with practice leaders and department heads to improve financial performance.
  • Analyze attorney profitability, office profitability, and client profitability.
  • Monitor realization, utilization, collections, and productivity metrics.
  • Evaluate pricing strategies and the financial impact of new business opportunities.
  • Support executive leadership with operational and strategic initiatives.


Financial Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to automate reporting and improve financial processes.
  • Improve internal financial controls and operational workflows.
  • Lead finance-related system implementations and process enhancements.
  • Partner with IT and software vendors to maximize the effectiveness of financial systems and reporting tools.
  • Develop standardized reporting and documentation to improve consistency and efficiency.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Accounting, Billing, HR, Recruiting, IT, and Operations.
  • Support compensation modeling, lateral hire evaluations, and business case development.
  • Provide financial guidance for operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for financial information across the organization.


Leadership

  • Mentor and develop members of the finance team.
  • Establish priorities and ensure timely completion of departmental objectives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer service.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in finance, FP&A, corporate finance, financial operations, or a similar role.
  • Strong financial modeling, reporting, and analytical skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with ERP, accounting, and business intelligence platforms.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a law firm or other professional services organization.
  • Experience with reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar business intelligence platforms.
  • Familiarity with legal billing, collections, profitability reporting, and operational metrics.
