About the role

RNWBL is hiring a Gearbox Technician II to support the repair, disassembly, inspection, and rebuild of industrial gearboxes and drivetrain components in a fast-paced shop environment at our facility located in Mukwonago, WI.

This hands-on Gearbox Technician II role is ideal for mechanically skilled technicians with experience in the wind industry, industrial maintenance, heavy mechanical repair, rotating equipment, or drivetrain systems. Wind turbine technicians and candidates with gearbox, mainshaft, uptower repair, or drivetrain experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Both 1st Shift and 2nd Shift opportunities are available.

The Gearbox Technician II works closely with engineering, warehouse, and production teams to maintain quality, safety, and production targets while supporting critical gearbox and component rebuild operations.

 

Key Responsibilities

As a Gearbox Technician II, you will:

  • Safely operate shop equipment including overhead cranes, presses, forklifts, and cutting/heating tools
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and bill of materials (BOMs)
  • Disassemble, inspect, troubleshoot, and rebuild industrial gearboxes and drivetrain components
  • Identify internal gearbox components and document inspection findings
  • Support gearbox teardown and mainshaft disassembly operations
  • Perform scheduled gear inspections for component reuse evaluation
  • Support quality documentation and production reporting requirements
  • Properly track labor hours and maintain accurate work order documentation
  • Assist with cycle counts, inventory accuracy, and inbound/outbound shipments as needed
  • Support engineering teams with quality event resolution and continuous improvement efforts
  • Maintain production throughput while meeting standard repair timelines

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Trade school certification or technical degree preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in the wind industry, industrial maintenance, gearbox repair, drivetrain systems, rotating equipment, or heavy mechanical repair preferred
  • Wind turbine component experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with gearboxes, mainshafts, bearings, generators, or drivetrain components preferred
  • Overhead crane experience required
  • Forklift experience preferred
  • Experience using heating/cutting torches preferred
  • Familiarity with Hytorc equipment is a plus
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to work independently in a hands-on industrial environment
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic

 

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly
  • Ability to stand, bend, climb, and perform hands-on mechanical work for extended periods
  • Comfortable working in an industrial shop environment around oils, mechanical equipment, and heavy components

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening
  • Must comply with all company safety and training requirements
