About the role

This position will report directly to the Engineering Manager. This position should be viewed not as a “Job” but rather as a “Career Commitment”. This means “wearing many hats” beyond the scope of primary responsibilities. Of particular importance is your ability to work with lead techs on upgrade designs and troubleshooting of potential issues both in the shop and office environments.


Duties

  • Lead new product development projects. Includes:
  • Co-own First Time Disassembly process with Senior Production Engineer
  • Perform First Time Disassembly and take required photos when requested by the Senior Production Engineer.
  • Assist with initial Bill of Material creation
  • Assist with assigning part numbers to BOM
  • Enter part numbers and create new routing in Sage 500 system as required
  • Lead reverse engineering activities.
  • Develop BOM for those models.
  • Lead Engineering Department with gear and bearing analysis.
  • Create CAD models of parts and sub-assemblies for each gearbox model.
  • Review and analyze dimension and material specification.
  • Create templates for production and quality paperwork.
  • Design upgrades for bearings, anti-rotation measures, lubrication, sealing, and misc. fits in gearboxes as needed.


Current gearbox development

  • Work closely with disassembly on each type of gearbox model.
  • Use this information to update the BOM for each model to make them fully accurate.
  • Create CAD models of parts and sub-assemblies for each gearbox model.
  • Use those models to create a full assembly model and sectional drawing for each gearbox.
  • Create drawings and check sheets for rework and new manufacture.
  • Design upgrades for bearings, anti-rotation measures, lubrication, sealing, and misc. fits in gearboxes as needed.


Engineering Department Development

  • Review Drawings and designs created by Design Engineer I and related positions.
  • Assist with training new hires, particularly in the Design Engineer I position
  • Become the team expert in certain aspects of Gearbox design, function, or operation to assist production and address design concerns


Failure types in gearboxes

  • Learn common failure modes and characteristics.
  • Design upgrades that mitigate common failures in refurbished gearboxes.


Lead Operational projects

  • Assist with model specific work instruction development.
  • Design / develop special tooling required for disassembly and assembly to assist with process upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot with technicians on tear down / build issues and assist with solutions.
  • Design / develop special rework plans for recovering specially damaged gearbox cores.


Lead Special projects for Office when needed

  • Sage processes including item creation and tracking methods in the system.
  • Interface with Purchasing to provide technical information required for quotes.
  • Attend training classes (SolidWorks, Gear/Bearing design or Failure related seminars, etc.) to stay up to date, bring knowledge back to help train the rest of the engineering team so the group stays efficient.
  • Support GBX School on as needed basis.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in relevant engineering discipline
  • 2-4 years of experience in relevant field. Additional consideration given to experiences with gearboxes or gearing
  • 2-4 years of experience using CAD and PDM Software. Additional consideration given to SolidWorks experience. Special consideration will be given to applicants with GD&T experience.
  • Accomplished analytic, written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision making abilities required.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to be highly “Customer Conscious”.
  • Focused on Quality and details.
  • Desire for constant challenge.
  • Ability to adapt to change


This is a 1st shift schedule.

Hours are Monday-Friday 7am-4pm.
