Salary: $65,000 - $70,000 /year

Position Summary

The Worship Associate role is ideal for someone who is excited to help cultivate and strengthen a healthy worship culture across the church. This role supports the Worship Director and strengthens Redeemer West Side’s worship ministry across Sunday services, special services, and youth worship. This role exists to improve excellence in worship planning and execution and to provide day-to-day leadership in music, scheduling, rehearsal direction, volunteer development, and administrative coordination.


Job Description

Worship Music Leadership

  • Partner with the Worship Director in planning and leading all Sunday services, including the Sunday Evening Worship Service and, at times, morning services.
  • Lead congregational worship vocally and instrumentally when scheduled.
  • Select songs, under the direction of the Worship Director, that fit the theological, pastoral, and musical goals of the church.
  • Prepare service flow and musical details in collaboration with the Worship Director.
  • Lead or co-lead worship for special services as needed.
  • Regularly direct rehearsals for youth worship and, on occasion, for Sunday worship teams and special services.
  • Prepare charts and other rehearsal materials for worship bands, choirs, and youth worship teams.


Music and Worship Administration

  • Collaborate on scheduling and training volunteer and paid musicians.
  • Assist in developing a healthy and consistent pipeline of musicians.
  • Assist in providing ongoing communication and relational care to team members.
  • Participate in onboarding and training for new musicians and volunteers.
  • Manage service planning, scheduling, communication, and team coordination using Planning Center.
  • Maintain accurate schedules, service plans, and related worship ministry records.
  • Lead worship-related logistics and preparation for Sunday, choir, and special services (e.g., stage plots, equipment needs, rehearsal plans).
  • Coordinate with other ministry staff and volunteers as needed to support worship plans.
  • Actively participate in RWS staff meetings, worship team meetings, and gatherings.


Youth Worship Oversight

  • Take primary oversight of the Friday night youth worship team: Recruit, schedule, train, and shepherd youth worship volunteers and student musicians.
  • Lead rehearsals and provide musical and spiritual coaching for youth worship.
  • Intentionally identify, disciple, and develop student worship leaders so that youth increasingly plan and lead worship with genuine ownership.
  • Work with student ministry leaders to ensure worship ministry is healthy, organized, and developmentally appropriate.


Creative Ministry Support

  • Participate in the development of Sing Play Speak and related creative ministry efforts under the Worship Director's leadership.
  • Support the broader creative and musical culture of the church.
  • Contribute artistic ideas, original songs, and arrangements as appropriate to the ministry's needs and vision.
  • Help strengthen camaraderie among musicians within the church and broader Redeemer network.


Qualifications

  • A mature commitment to the Christian faith and alignment with the core theological principles of Redeemer West Side, our worship philosophy, and ministry values.
  • Strong vocal ability and proficiency on guitar or piano.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead congregational worship, direct worship teams, and lead rehearsals. Particular experience leading younger musicians.
  • Strong sense of musical taste, arrangement, and service flow that serves congregational worship.
  • High emotional intelligence and a naturally relational personality; trustworthy. adaptable. supportive and warmly confident.
  • Able to serve as a positive Christian role model up front who possesses a love for God that is evident and inviting.
  • Demonstrated integrity, self-awareness, teachability, adaptability, accountability, and healthy drive/motivation.
  • Available to work a nontraditional schedule, including evenings and weekends as required by Sunday services and Friday youth gatherings.
  • Ability to work with confidential information and maintain high standards of honesty and integrity.
  • Comfortable serving in and attentive to a culturally and socio-economically diverse congregation.
  • Willing to embrace the non-glamorous aspects of ministry (e.g., setup, teardown, and behind-the-scenes tasks).
  • Attend Redeemer West Side and consider it your church home, working toward membership.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage details and follow through on commitments.
  • Experience in recruiting, training, and shepherding volunteers.
  • Ability to problem-solve under pressure in a dynamic, live-event environment (Sunday services, youth gatherings, special events).
  • Comfort with digital tools; willingness to become proficient in Planning Center and Google Workspace (prior experience is preferred)
  • Must be available to work Sundays, most Friday evenings, three weekdays, and occasional additional times as needed; some flexibility between in-person and remote work on weekdays.
  • Agreement with Redeemer West Side staff policies, including the intellectual property policy.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill set; experience and training; licensure, certifications, and ordination; and other organizational needs.
