Job Title: Registered Intralingual (Deaf Relay) Interpreter / Registered Sign Language Translator
Salary: £45,000–£55,000+ (Depending on Experience)
Location: Home-based, anywhere in the UK
Reports to: Head of Service Delivery

Role Overview 

We are seeking skilled and motivated Registered Intralingual (Deaf Relay) Interpreters who are also Registered Sign Language Translators to join our growing team. 

In this role, you will provide high-quality relay interpreting and sign language translation services across a range of remote settings. Working alongside interpreters, customers and the wider SignWow team, you will help facilitate effective communication for Deaf people with diverse language and communication needs. 

You will deliver services through both pre-booked assignments and on-demand calls via the SignWow platform, supporting communication access across a wide range of environments and situations. 


Key Responsibilities 

Translation and Relay Interpreting Services 

  • Deliver high-quality intralingual relay interpreting and sign language translation services through remote platforms. 
  • Provide communication support during scheduled assignments and on-demand service delivery. 
  • Adapt communication to meet the linguistic, cultural, and accessibility needs of Deaf people. 
  • Work collaboratively with interpreters and other professionals to facilitate effective communication. 
  • Support positive outcomes for service users by ensuring communication is accurate, accessible, and person-centred. 

Professional Standards and Quality 

  • Maintain the highest standards of professional practice at all times. 
  • Adhere to the NRCPD Code of Conduct and all relevant professional standards. 
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection requirements. 
  • Demonstrate sound professional judgement and uphold appropriate professional boundaries. 
  • Contribute to the delivery of safe, effective, and accessible services. 

Collaboration and Service Development 

  • Work closely with colleagues and management to support service delivery. 
  • Engage with SignWow systems and processes to ensure a seamless experience for clients and service users. 
  • Provide constructive feedback on service improvements and accessibility considerations. 
  • Participate in team meetings, quality assurance activities, and organisational initiatives. 

Continuous Professional Development 

  • Maintain and develop professional knowledge and skills through ongoing CPD. 
  • Keep up to date with developments in relay interpreting, sign language translation, accessibility, and technology. 
  • Participate in training, mentoring, and professional development opportunities provided by SignWow. 


Skills & Experience Required - Essential

  • Registered Intralingual (Deaf Relay) Interpreter. 
  • Registered Sign Language Translator. 
  • Current registration with NRCPD (or an equivalent recognised professional body). 
  • Minimum of two years' professional experience in relay interpreting, sign language translation, or a closely related field. 
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture, language variation, and accessible communication practices. 
  • Ability to work effectively within remote service delivery environments. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred services. 

Please note: This role requires dual registration as both a Registered Intralingual (Deaf Relay) Interpreter and a Registered Sign Language Translator. Applicants who hold only one registration will not be considered. 


Skills & Experience Required - Desirable

  • Experience working as a Support Worker. 
  • Experience within VRS or VRI services. 
  • Experience supporting Deaf people with additional communication, language, or accessibility needs. 
  • Experience working within healthcare, education, social care, public sector, or community settings.
