About the role

The Senior Commercial Construction Manager is responsible for managing key aspects of the company’s commercial construction projects. This role focuses on identifying and bidding on commercial opportunities, coordinating project execution, and delivering projects on time and within budget while maintaining high-quality standards in marine and waterfront construction. The position blends business development support, estimating, subcontractor management, and hands-on project oversight to support revenue growth in the commercial segment.

What you'll do

Business Development & Bidding

  • Identify, research, and pursue commercial opportunities including municipal, private developer, and waterfront projects (docks, piers, boat lifts, barges, dredging, and marine infrastructure).
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of potential projects through networking, client relationships, bid platforms, and market research.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive bids, estimates, proposals, and presentations, including quantity takeoffs, pricing, scope definition, and risk assessment.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to align proposals with company capabilities.
  • Track project financials, including forecasting, invoicing, change orders, and collections in coordination with Finance.

Project Execution & Management

  • Manage assigned projects from award through closeout, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and budget control.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager to manage subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams, ensuring projects meet all specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor project progress, costs, schedules, and quality; identify and resolve issues, change orders, and delays to protect margins and client satisfaction.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and support on-water/marine construction activities as needed.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on project status, pipeline, and performance metrics.

Team & Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and installation teams.
  • Contribute to process improvements in estimating, bidding, and project management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field (Master’s degree or relevant certifications a plus).
  • 3+ years of experience in construction project management, estimating, and/or business development, with exposure to marine/waterfront or heavy civil projects preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of construction practices, bidding processes, and relevant regulations (e.g., USACE, environmental permits) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with bidding and project management tools (e.g., Procore, MS Project), takeoff software, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions and Physical Efforts:

  • Office-based with frequent site visits; work involves walking, talking, hearing, and occasional material handling.
  • May require stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, or crawling on job sites.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) on sites.

Travel Requirements: Travel up to 25% as needed.
