Summary
Estes Energetics is seeking a Data Manager for the overall administration, support, and optimization of the organization’s database platforms. This critical role ensures high data integrity, system reliability, and secure data access across the organization, while supporting technical and project staff with the tools and workflows they need to succeed. The Data Manager will also play a central role in strengthening collaboration between administration, operations, and engineering. This position requires deep technical acumen in database management and software programming, as well as hands-on experience in startup product manufacturing environments.
This role touches every part of Estes Energetics, including our rocket motor research, development, and manufacturing operations in Colorado and the Goex black powder manufacturing operation in Minden, Louisiana. Essential Functions
- Manage and improve data systems that Integrate SharePoint, Fishbowl, Smartsheet.gov with Unanet or Power BI and other platform solutions, including third-party SCADA platforms like Ignition.
- Create system dashboards for real-time visibility and reporting and analytics to support development, safety, HR, Finance, operations, communications, program, and leadership teams.
- Collaborate across administration, engineering, and operations to improve technical workflows and process efficiency.
- Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise database systems across platforms (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.) and serve as the primary administrator for the organization’s database platforms, including user account management, permissions, data quality, and security.
- Develop, deploy, and maintain custom scripts, automation tools, and integrations using modern programming languages (e.g., C++, Python, JavaScript).
- Develop training materials and support end-users across departments with tools and dashboards tailored to their roles and train cross functional staffs on system usage
- Analyze and present data to leadership to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Customize our existing platforms to meet evolving organizational needs, including new fields, page layouts, automations, and dashboards.
- Maintain data integrity across all systems and ensure consistent data entry, tagging, and segmentation practices.
- Lead technical efforts to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with data security protocols.
- Participate in audits and ensure compliance with ITAR, DFARS, NIST, and other aerospace/defense data regulations.
Competencies, Experience, and Education
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technology field
- 5+ years of experience in database/system administration or data integration.
- Hands-on experience managing and customizing SharePoint.
- Proficiency in MRP/ERP systems used in manufacturing environments.
- Programming ability in C++, Python, and one or more modern scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, JavaScript)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software
- Proven track record working in a startup or high-growth manufacturing environment
- Experience supporting engineering or R&D teams with data-driven solutions and tools
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
Desired
- Experience with Aerospace and Defense work (strongly desired)
- Experience with hazardous or energetic materials
- Hands on experience with Unanet and Fishbowl MRP/ERP systems used in manufacturing environments.
- Hands on experience with Smartsheet.gov cloud-based work management platform.
- Prior experience with management of an ISO 9001 or AS 9100 quality programs
Work Environment
The work will primarily be in an office and manufacturing environment, including outdoors.

Travel
Travel will be rarely expected but possible up to 10%.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position working a 9/80 schedule. Occasional overtime may be required during busy periods.
