Position overview:
The Geoeconomics team works at the intersection of politics, economics, and markets, helping turn our political analysis into macroeconomic and market insights, working with Eurasia Group’s country and sector teams and using a range of economics and financial market tools. We are hiring an Associate who will work with our team to link our political risk analysis with economic perspectives and the latest developments in financial markets. This role will be located in our Sao Paulo, Brazil office.
More specifically, in this role, you will:
· Partner with Eurasia Group’s country political analysts to assess the economic and market impact of political developments.
· Participate in the production and analysis of Eurasia Group’s flagship Global Political Risk database and index and other cross-country political risk data products.
· Contribute to the production of EG’s Daily Brief newsletter, develop and carry forward deep dives into the intersection of markets, economics, and policy individually and in a team on new projects. Work on geoeconomic research projects, and exercise independent judgment and discretion in completing assignments with minimal oversight.
Qualifications:
Preferred candidates will have a strong research or analytics professional background in economics or markets. Candidates should also have relevant professional experience at a leading financial research organization, global investment bank or asset manager, multilateral development bank, or international financial institution.
· Degree in Economics, Finance, International Affairs, or related field
· At least 1 to 4 years of experience, with a focus on data analysis, financial markets, and economic policies
· Familiarity with movements in global financial markets and the ability to understand and statistically analyze economic and market data.
· Experience working with excel, data visualization software, and facility with R and/or python is necessary; experience with Bloomberg, Macrobond, or SQL is a plus
· Comfortable in a fast-moving, changing environment
· Understanding of policymaking and an interest in understanding the implications of policy decisions for economic and market performance
· Native or strong fluency in English (oral and written)
· You must be authorized to work in Brazil and speak fluent Portuguese.
