Position overview

The geo-technology practice is seeking an analyst to cover the intersection of frontier technologies and geopolitics, with a primary focus on AI models. The core of the role is implications-led: You will translate technical and engineering realities into early indicators and forward-looking judgments about geopolitical competition, regulatory trajectories, market access, and corporate risk.

This role supports client work directly and operates within the team’s model: Client delivery, commercial ownership, and contributions to practice publishing. The analyst will report to senior members of the geo-technology practice, and will work closely with colleagues covering AI policy and geopolitics, China, the EU, the US, telecom, and critical infrastructure.

Note: This is not a traditional software engineering or IT role.

Responsibilities of geo-technology analyst

  • Assess and analyze frontier AI model developments and diffusion dynamics (including open and closed model ecosystems) and identify the geopolitical and regulatory implications that matter most for corporate strategy.
  • Contribute to forward-looking analysis that connects technical shifts to political incentives, policy direction, enforcement risk, and competitiveness agendas, especially for emerging markets.
  • Ability to evaluate developers’ capabilities of building AI chatbot applications and supervise technology vendors’ construction, refinement, and delivery of applications’
  • Support and help lead client engagements, including:
    • Executive-ready slides and memos
    • Board pre-reads and briefing materials
    • Rapid-turn analysis tied to client decisions and deliverables
  • Analyst will lead-manage select client relationships, including coordinating deliverables, supporting renewals, and identifying opportunities to expand work.
  • Contribute to practice publishing, including inputs to the monthly “Download” and other deliverables as directed by senior analysts.
  • Engage in exceptional teamwork, collaborating across the firm to integrate frontier technology insights into broader geopolitical narratives and client outcomes.

Skills and qualifications

  • Technical fluency in AI models and the AI model lifecycle (capabilities, evaluation, deployment constraints, access and distribution), with the ability to separate signal from hype.
  • Interest in geopolitics, political risk, and regulation, and a track record of connecting technical shifts to political and commercial outcomes. Emerging markets experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills. You can turn complex material into clear, implications-led analysis for senior audiences.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in industry (ideal), government, research, academia, or consulting (we will consider non-traditional backgrounds if the candidate demonstrates the required technical fluency and writing strength).
  • Client-facing experience and commercial acumen, including coordinating deliverables, managing stakeholders, and supporting renewals.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, including comfort working in multi-analyst teams where responsibilities span publishing and client delivery.
  • Ability to travel for client projects (as needed)
  • Emerging Markets experience a plus
