MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - LEAD

Nature of Work
Under the direction of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician Lead performs, leads, and oversees indoor facility maintenance for district buildings. The position focuses on troubleshooting, repairing, and installing building systems and components, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical equipment, HVAC, and pool systems. While occasional outdoor work is required, the primary emphasis is on interior infrastructure, equipment, and facility operations. The role requires use of power tools, diagnostic equipment, and trade-related machinery.
Essential Functions
- Perform semi-skilled or skilled work in at least two trades such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, welding, or mechanical repair.
- Repair and maintain interior building components, including carpentry, cabinetry, roofing repairs, doors, windows, electrical wiring and fixtures, plumbing systems, HVAC systems, and pool mechanical areas
- Conduct indoor facility upkeep, including general repairs, preventive maintenance, equipment servicing, and troubleshooting mechanical systems.
- Perform outdoor maintenance tasks such as lawn mowing, weed eating, snow removal, ice maintenance, irrigation solutions, etc.
- Paint interiors and exteriors of buildings, pools, and facilities when needed.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and effectively prioritize building maintenance tasks.
- Provide guidance and support to assigned maintenance and custodial staff.
- Ensure proper and safe use of power tools, mechanical equipment, and trade-related tools throughout district facilities.
- Comply with all safety standards of the district and position.
- Maintain a strong customer service focus when working with facility users and district staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Management & Supervisory Duties
- Supervises and provides guidance to assigned maintenance and custodial staff involved in building operations and facility support.
Illustrative Examples of Duties
- Perform routine and preventive indoor building maintenance, including mechanical system checks, equipment servicing, and facility repairs.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to extreme heat, cold, wet, humid, icy or icy conditions, as well as noise, fumes, dusts, mists, gasses, caustic chemical hazards, and ultraviolet rays produced by arc welding equipment.
- Complete assignments efficiently and in accordance with maintenance schedules.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to safely and effectively use tools including hand and power tools, diagnostic instruments, lifts, ladders, and facility-related equipment.
- Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 75 lbs., bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and navigating confined spaces or mechanical areas.
Required Training, Experience & Qualifications
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
- High School diploma or equivalent,
- Minimum of 5 years experience in two marketable skills such as plumbing, carpentry, heating, welding, automotive, pool maintenance etc.
- Current Driver's License with a clean driving record for the last five years (excluding minor traffic violations such as two or less speeding tickets).
- CDL Driver's License preferred but not required
