Nature of Work

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor-Gymnastics, this position is responsible for organizing and

conducting all recreation and team-level programs, instructing classes, and supporting the Gymnastics

Supervisor with administrative and supervisory duties.


Essential Functions

  • Maintain a strong focus on both internal and external guest service.
  • Establish preschool, recreational level, or team programs.
  • Teach all groups through all rotations that are considered safe by current standards.
  • Explain and demonstrate age appropriate gymnastics skills.
  • Observe and assist participants in acquiring new skills.
  • Provide class schedules for front desk and other staff.
  • Set up equipment specific to each class.
  • Check equipment and gym regularly to ensure a safe environment for participants.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, payments, and participant progress.
  • Report accidents and injuries that occur during class.
  • Administer first-aid as necessary.
  • Inform parents of program policies and information.
  • Provide input for seasonal programming, budget, and marketing.
  • Attend trainings, clinics, and conferences to learn new or different ideas.
  • Find substitutes for classes when not available.
  • Organize and maintain gym.
  • Answer phones and return messages as needed.
  • Prepare administrative paperwork for all gymnastics program.
  • Meet all requirements of Gymnastics' Coordinator 1.

Management & Supervisory Duties

  • Train employees by teaching spotting skills, refining staff techniques, and ensuring staff attendance in spotting clinics.
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with District personnel, the public, and representatives of other agencies.
  • Meet with program staff as needed and assist with staff substitute coverage.
  • Provide staff evaluation input to the Gymnastics Supervisor.

Illustrative Examples of Duties

  • Set up and clean up for daily circuits or classes.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create materials for upcoming events and program communication.
  • Record attendance and participant progression.
  • Complete assigned duties in a timely manner.
  • Check equipment and conduct inventory regularly basis to ensure a safe environment for class participants.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintain strong customer service orientation.
  • Use current systems to track participation, revenue, and other metrics.
  • Create weekly outline of themes and circuits for instructors to use.
  • Support participants physically as needed, including extended periods of standing or spotting.


Knowledge

  • Expert knowledge of instructional methods, practices, equipment, and techniques relating to gymnastics programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable class curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Physical education instruction skills
  • Intermediate MS Office and computer skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures.

Abilities

  • Transfer specialized knowledge to class participants.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Instruct participants safely and effectively to achieve goals.
  • Perform work in an indoor environment with frequent interruptions or distractions.

Required Training, Experience & Qualifications

  • Four (4) year degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Early Childhood Education, or equivalent education and experience.
  • CPR/AED, and First-Aid Certification, or have the ability to obtain within six-months (6) of employment.
  • KAT Safety Certification through USAG or equivalent
  • MELPD through USAG
  • Five (5) years program coordination experience
  • Five (5) years coaching experience

The pay range for this role is:

23.05 - 28.22 USD per hour (Gymnastics)
