IT Systems Administrator

Nature of Work

Under the direction of the Executive Manager, the IT System Administrator is responsible for managing day-to-day and strategic IT operations for the District, possibly including web and mobile app development. This role provides hardware and software support, installs and configures IT systems, maintains documentation, and manages IT assets. Other main functions include providing training for staff, keeping detailed inventory records, and answering technology questions. Additionally, the IT System Administrator collaborates with external consultants, agencies, and vendors to ensure optimal system performance and integration.




Essential Functions

·        Provide IT support by managing ticketing systems and fielding help requests via phone and email.

·        Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies, including endpoint security and phishing training.

·        Manage technology procurement, vendor relations, and contract negotiations.

·        Maintain and improve backup and recovery processes.

·        Perform desktop support, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and software installations for Windows and Mac devices.

·        Provide general support and management of district printers and scanners. Provide and track usage reports.

·        Serve as liaison between District and outside contractors for additional support.

·        Integration support and oversight for SaaS (e.g., ActiveNet, POS) and mobile applications.

·        Develop and maintain training materials and documentation for internal staff and public users.

·        Maintain inventory records and manage software inventory tracking systems.

·        Administer and upgrade network components, including wireless access points, network modems, switches, and backup power supplies.

·        Manage workstation lifecycle, including backup, imaging, setup, and troubleshooting.

·        Oversee the District's IT recycling program and secure data disposal.

·        Develop web features and enhancements for internal and public use, improving automation and maintainability.

·        Build and manage mobile applications for internal processes and public-facing services.

·        Administer email accounts for new hires and terminations, ensuring proper delegation and data retention.

·        Deploy and manage security camera systems, including Verkada and Ubox.

·        Manage VoIP phone systems.

·        Configure and maintain SharePoint and other M365 administrative tools.

·        Install, maintain, and configure audio-visual equipment for board meetings and events.

·        Perform vulnerability assessments and remediation of identified security risks.

·        Assist in IT budgeting and asset management.

·        Respond to IT emergencies outside regular working hours as needed.

·        Manage IT projects such as network security upgrades, data protection initiatives, and infrastructure improvements.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

Expertise in:

·        Active Directory (Microsoft Entra)

·        Endpoint security and antivirus software (Sophos, McAfee, etc.)

·        Windows and Mac operating systems (primarily managing Microsoft 365 environments)

·        M365 administration (Teams, SharePoint, Exchange, Compliance, Security)

·        Remote desktop technologies (VNC, vPro)

·        Windows Server administration

·        VPN configuration (GlobalProtect)

·        IT asset and inventory management

·        Security compliance and vulnerability management

Basic knowledge of:

·        Web and mobile app development (ASP.NET, C#, HTML, JavaScript, .NET Core, Xamarin, Native Android)

·        System interfaces and API integration

·        Networking and security protocols

·        Google Suite platform administration

·

·        Ability to oversee large-scale capital projects related to District IT infrastructure.

Required Training, Experience, and Qualifications

·        5-10 years of experience in IT support, network administration, or related fields.

·        Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        Industry certifications preferred (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+).

·        Experience with web and mobile application development.

·        Strong knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and IT asset management.

·        Clear communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.

·        Ability to perform arithmetic operations as needed for IT asset tracking and budgeting.
