Position Description:


The Senior Battery Data Scientist will play a key role in driving data-driven decision-making at FlexGen by leveraging advanced analytics, machine learning, and statistical modeling to optimize battery energy storage system (BESS) performance. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineering, product management, and operations, to develop insights that enhance battery dispatch, reliability, and economic returns.

The Senior Battery Data Scientist will be responsible for developing and deploying scalable models that improve energy storage efficiency, predict system failures, and optimize revenue streams in various power markets. The ideal candidate will have expertise in time-series analysis, battery degradation modeling, and optimization techniques with a passion for clean energy and grid resilience.

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other data scientists to design, develop, scale, test, and deploy data science & machine learning algorithms that improve the operation of battery energy storage systems.
  • Develop data-driven solutions to optimize BESS operation, market participation, and asset health.
  • Design and implement advanced analytics models and machine learning algorithms for various topics related to battery operations including predictive maintenance, modeling battery state of charge, and battery degradation forecasting.
  • Perform time-series analysis to assess battery performance under different operating conditions.
  • Partner with software engineering teams to deploy models into production environments within the HybridOS™ platform.
  • Collaborate with the product manager to align analytics with business objectives.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes in energy storage and power markets.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, and advanced analytics.
  • 2+ years of experience in the energy sector, preferably in batteries or renewables but not required.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, pytorch, tensorflow).
  • Experience successfully bringing data science models to end users
  • Expertise in time-series forecasting, anomaly detection, and predictive modeling.
  • Experience with optimization techniques (e.g., linear programming, reinforcement learning, stochastic modeling).
  • Familiarity with battery storage system dynamics, degradation modeling, and electrochemical properties.
  • Proficiency using cloud-based data platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar). AWS experience preferred
  • Experience deploying models in production environments and working with MLOps frameworks (e.g., MLFlow).
  • Ability to translate complex technical findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams.
