Role Overview:
As the Staff SRE for Telecom & SMS Infrastructure, you will be responsible for system operations, creating scalable and durable maintenance best practices, developing future-looking architectural optimization strategies, and supporting the success of the team to drive substantial value and business outcomes. You will be accountable for supporting the strategic carrier relationships to drive enterprise goals forward. You will proactively collaborate internally with Engineering, Product, Carrier, and Support teams to enable seamless customer solutions.
Lead the design and implementation of reliability strategies for SMS infrastructure, focusing on automation, monitoring, and performance tuning
Serve as the technical point of contact between EZ Texting and the telecom providers and aggregators
Serve as an expert in SIP and SMS technologies & protocols, guiding best practices and performance optimization.
Proactively analyze, monitor, and report on messaging operations performance, assessing reliability and maintainability
Respond to customer escalations for our voice and messaging products
Set up a plan to scale telecom engineering knowledge towards a durable and sustainable framework
Act as the telecom technical advisor for the Carrier, Product, and Engineering teams and leadership in support of the organization’s strategic direction
Conduct performance analysis and monitoring of telecom and messaging infrastructure, identifying and addressing bottlenecks for optimal service delivery.
Develop and enforce service-level objectives (SLOs) to measure and improve service reliability.
Help foster and reinforce a culture of inclusion, innovation, and excellence
Required Skills:
10+ years engineering experience with telecom and sms infrastructure
10+ years of software engineering experience
Experience working with web applications and service-oriented architectures
Not afraid of a command line
Knowledge of Spring Boot
Experience with software development
Deep understanding of REST
Experience working in a cloud environment (GCP, AWS, Azure)
Experience working with Interconnects, NAT, VPN WAFs
Experience with sngrep, wireshark,nginx, tomcat, linux, haproxy, k8s, mysql, elasticsearch
Experience with docker, gitlab, github, jenkins, ansible, terraform
Deep knowledge of Opensips, Asterisk, and Kannel
Deep understanding of the SMS and MMS protocols
Deep understanding of SNMP, SIP, RTP (telco/sms specific)
Deep experience dealing with customers and troubleshooting/diagnosing SMS, MMS, and VOIP
Understanding of the fraud landscape in telecom and messaging
Know what these mean: DLR, MO, MT, MM4, MM7, AGI, AMI
Building asterisk, kannel, opensips from source
Asterisk performance tuning for big traffic spikes (elections)
Familiarity with DevOps principles and practices
Familiarity with SRE
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex system issues, utilizing a systematic, detail-oriented approach.
Experience operating in a remote environment
Effective stakeholder management
Planning, organization, project management
Strong analytical skills, with the capability to analyze system data and metrics to drive improvements.
Collaborative and positive mindset to work as part of a cross-functional team, including the ability to share information
Effectively and drive clarity in times of ambiguity and extreme complexity
Nice to have:
Experience writing Java code
Experience with Datadog
Experience with Atlassian cloud (Jira & Confluence) and Google Workspace

At a Staff level, people will bring you ambiguous problems without solutions. Your job is to dive deep to figure out solutions and present options and tradeoffs. Compensation: The starting cash compensation range for this role is $155,000 - $188,000, inclusive of Base Salary + Variable Target, vs base salary only. This position is also eligible for equity & benefits. More information will be shared regarding your specific location during the hiring process.
Our compensation market ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum cash compensation target for new hire compensation for this position based in the US. Exact individual pay is determined by actual location, skills, capabilities and experience in addition to our benchmarking factors.
