About the role

We’re hiring a full-time STEM Lab Coordinator to own day-to-day operations of a large, modern makerspace/STEM lab. The coordinator will guide students through the full design-to-production cycle—ideation, CAD/CAM, prototyping, iteration, and final builds—while maintaining equipment, safety, and scheduling. The role also includes planning and facilitating STEM camps during summer and holiday weeks.

What you'll do

  • Daily Lab Operations & Safety
    • Open/close the lab; enforce safety policies, PPE, and machine lockout/tagout where appropriate.
    • Maintain equipment uptime: perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot issues, coordinate vendor service, and keep consumables stocked.
    • Manage inventory (materials, bits, filaments, lenses, boards), organize storage, and keep a clean, professional workspace.

  • Student Instruction & Project Facilitation
    • Lead small groups and 1:1 sessions in design thinking, CAD/CAM, rapid prototyping, and fabrication.
    • Coach students through complete build cycles (requirements → design → test → iterate → document).
    • Collaborate with academic/athletic staff to align projects with learning goals and student interests.

  • Programming & Camps
    • Design and facilitate engaging STEM camps/workshops during summer and school breaks (some evenings/weekends required).
    • Develop project menus, kits, and rubrics for various ages and skill levels; manage registration rosters and day-of logistics.

  • Systems, Compliance & Admin
    • Create SOPs, quick-start guides, and safety trainings; maintain student certification checklists.
    • Track usage, outcomes, and budget needs; assist with purchase requests and vendor relations.
    • Maintain a calendar for classes, open lab, reservations, and equipment training.

  • Culture & Community
    • Foster a positive, inclusive, and industrious maker culture—curiosity, craftsmanship, iteration, and ownership.
    • Showcase student work (displays, showcases, social posts) and support club events and partnerships.


Qualifications


Required

  • Hands-on experience operating and maintaining makerspace equipment (at least 2 of: CNC router, laser cutter/engraver, 3D printers), plus basic electronics or fabrication skills.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM (e.g., Fusion 360, Onshape, SolidWorks) and slicers/CAM toolpaths.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, coach, or mentor students (K–12) in project-based learning.
  • Strong organization, communication, and classroom/lab management skills; safety-first mindset.

Preferred

  • Experience designing STEM camps or after-school programs.
  • FAA Part 107 (Remote Pilot) or willingness to obtain (for drone instruction).
  • Familiarity with coding/robotics (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Python, VEX/FTC/FRC helpful).
  • Experience with lab SOPs, risk assessments, and basic LOTO/PPE best practices.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment serving student-athletes.


Work Schedule & Environment

  • Full-time, in-office in College Grove, TN, Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week, year-round.
  • Extended hours may be required during summer/holiday camps and special events.
  • Mostly on-site lab work with regular student interaction and equipment operations.
