Summary:


The Data Scientist will be supporting Department of Air Force, JBSA – Lackland, Counter Insider Threat (DAF C In T) Program, an organization and program that will be developing and integrating forward-looking technologies to enhance the DoD worldwide mission, maturing its architecture of hardware, software, and advanced intelligence problem solving. The Data Scientist supports the production and the continued advancement of data analytical processes and techniques within the operational and technical aspects of the DAF C In T programs, policies and concepts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilites:


The successful candidate is someone who creatively approaches a variety of requirements to meet intelligence needs, can balance work on multiple tasks, and work collaboratively with other scientists, engineers, and analysts in a collaborative, dynamic, cross-functional environment. The Data Scientist is responsible for producing applied research in the intelligence field. Per PWS labor category for Data Scientist, p. 75 and PWS section 1.3.10.11, Consulting Support, specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyze complex datasets using statistical and machine learning techniques to extract insights and patterns.
  • Develop predictive models for forecasting, anomaly detection, and risk assessment.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to understand domain-specific data and requirements for analysis.
  • Implement data mining and exploratory data analysis techniques to uncover hidden trends and correlations.
  • Perform data cleansing and preprocessing to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Create data visualizations and interactive dashboards to present findings and insights.
  • Apply natural language processing (NLP) techniques for unstructured data analysis and text mining.
  • Develop algorithms for pattern recognition, clustering, and classification of data.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders through reports, presentations, and data storytelling.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy, security and ethical guidelines in data analysis and model development.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to access, integrate and preprocess data for analysis purposes.
  • Provide expertise in advanced analytics and data science techniques to support decision-making and mission-critical operations.  Staying current with the latest developments in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to apply innovative approaches to data analysis.
  • Conduct sector, industry, and company-level primary research leveraging business intelligence tools to uncover and evaluate industry trends.
  • Assist in development and authoring of research reports;
  • Leverage clear analytic judgment to deliberately interact with USG stakeholders, corporate entities, investors, and industry associations to generate reports and Air Force insights.

Required Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • Clearance: TS/SCI
  • Education: MA/MS (or a BA/BS plus an additional 8 Years of work experience, 4 of which must be work-related)
  • Data Science Council of America (DASCA) or
  • Open Certified Data Scientist (Open CDS) (preferred)
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of work-related experience.
  • Of those 10 years, six (6) years of work-related experience supporting a component of the DoD.
  • Development experience in mid-level languages, like Java, C++, Python, or SQL
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Experience with Spark, DataBricks, and Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Experience in Data wrangling, Machine Learning, Data Visualization, Database Management, Cloud Computing, and Data Governance.
  • Experience documenting decision charts, processes, and standard operating procedures
  • Experience building briefings and materials and presenting at varying levels of leadership, peers, and program stakeholders.
  • Experience in analyzing large datasets, developing predictive models, and creating data driven solutions for decision making.
  • Experience analyzing complex datasets using statistical and machine learning techniques to extract insights and patterns.
  • Experience developing forecasts, anomaly detection and risk assessments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Experience with stakeholder collaboration,, management, and briefings.
  • Advanced ability to evaluate and synthesize multiple sources of information to creatively inform decision options that consider various outcomes; demonstrate the ability to combine diverse ideas, problem sets, solutions, and outcomes into a singular storyline that can inform and be absorbed by experts and novices alike.

Desired Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Software, specifically PowerPoint
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a data science or equivalent field.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) and/or AF administrative processes (preferred)
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a rapidly changing and demanding environment.
  • Detail oriented, flexible, ability to context switch.
  • Strong understanding of statistics and probability
  • Knowledge of Amazon AWS capabilities and infrastructure
  • Knowledge of various DoD systems, data platforms, and DITMAC reportable thresholds (preferred).
  • Knowledge of DoD and DAF Insider Threat Policies and Regulations (preferred).
  • Knowledge of DoD and DAF data related laws, regulations, and policies (preferred).
  • Experience supporting the Air Force (preferred).
  • Multiple data analysis languages, methods, and tool expertise (preferred)
  • Certified Analytics Professional (CAP)
  • SAS Certified Professional: AI and Machine Learning (preferred)
  • SAS Certified Advanced Analytics Professional (preferred)
  • SAS Certified Data Scientist (preferred)
  • DataBricks Certified Data Engineer Professional (preferred)
