SUMMARY: A plumber's assistant is a skilled tradesperson that provides support to a professional plumber. They often have similar qualifications to a lead plumber, or they might work as an assistant while they are receiving formal training. Plumber's assistants are also often involved in apprenticeship programs as part of their training or licensure. They perform many of the same tasks but might do so under closer supervision than an experienced or independent plumber would.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Help lead plumbers with plumbing systems installation and repair

Read blueprints and drawings to determine where plumbing system will be installed

Select materials which are required for installation, such as type and size of pipe

Hand in materials and tools to plumbers

Locate pipe leaks and cut open walls and structures to expose pipes

Measure, cut, and thread pipes

Clean dirt and oil from pipes using chemical solutions

Remove damaged pipes and assemble new pipes

Install gutters, drainpipes, garbage disposals, and runoff systems

Adjust water pressure valves

Make minor repairs such as unclogging toilets or drains, and replacing faucet washers and toilet wax rings

Install supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures, and equipment

Drill holes, dig ditches and mount brackets

Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing systems

Keep the work area clean



QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess a minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED). Preferred Diploma from a Trade School

Must possess a minimum of one (1) year of Plumbing Assistant experience.

Must have knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the trade.

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations for this role.

Ability to be flexible and willing to work as part of a team.

Ability to be friendly and approachable.

Ability to understand and deliver good customer service.

Must possess good attention to detail.

Ability to demonstrate above average time management and project management skills.

Must possess a full driving license.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

You must be able to climb, reach, sit, stand, kneel, bend, and stretch for extended periods of time.

You must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds with ease; I.e., Ladders, tool bags, pipe, etc.

Work may be completed inside and outside of our customers’ homes. You must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, I.e., Hot, Cold, Wind, Rain, Hail, Snow, Sleet, etc. While we try to mitigate working in these conditions, we cannot guarantee the weather changing while on a job site.



WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Your role will require you to travel within the area your team covers. However, sometimes you may be expected to travel outside that area as the job role requires.


While performing the duties of this Job, the individual is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment can vary based on the job location. The individual frequently works in a controlled climate; however, some jobs may take you outside in the elements for a long time.
