foreUP seeks an experienced Software Engineer, a PHP developer who enjoys working with various cross-functional teams.  This position will be responsible for assisting both the foreUP Websites and Marketing teams with feature development and product maintenance, as well as the foreUP Architecture team.  We are looking for candidates that have a solid background in WordPress plugin development and managing and maintaining a large portfolio of websites in WP Engine.  The ideal candidate will also have experience building and maintaining modern web applications using Node.js, Vue, AWS Lambda and PHP frameworks like Symfony or Laravel.  This position involves interacting with a variety of individuals internally and externally and at all levels of the organization. Candidate must be driven, organized, detail-oriented, and have excellent communication skills.  


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 

  • Work with the foreUP Websites team to build new features via WordPress plugins. 
  • Provide guidance/assistance to the Websites team in the management and maintenance of the various platforms that are used to host our customers’ websites. 
  • Assist with the transition and maintenance of customer websites to WP Engine. 
  • Work with the foreUP marketing team to maintain existing custom-built dashboards and add new features as necessary. 
  • Work as part of the foreUP Architecture team, making continuous improvements to ensure we remain the best in class. 
  • Comfortable refactoring/understanding legacy code and moving towards open standards 
  • Structured, disciplined approach to development, testing, and deployment. 
  • Provide correct bug fixes 
  • Manage time across multiple projects and tasks in a deadline-driven, team environment. 
  • Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas. 
  • Generate statistics and write reports for management and/or team members on the status of the programming process. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED 

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS preferred or equivalent experience 
  • 5+ years experience with at least some of the following: PHP; WordPress; WP Engine; Node.js; Modern Frameworks (Symfony, Laravel, etc.); HTML5, Vue; SASS & CSS 
  • Experience working with AWS and cloud-based web applications is a huge plus 
  • Experienced with Jira and Agile environments 
  • Detail driven, self-management and time management are critical in this role.   
  • A communication pro – must be able to explain technical issues to a non-technical person, professionally   
  • Ability to take an idea from concept to reality in an iterative and highly releasable manner 
  • Ability to take design documents and turn them into functional code 
  • Ability to work independently and with other members of the team, including Quality Assurance engineers 
  • Comfortable with writing, editing, and maintaining unit/feature tests 
  • There is direct project oversight, but you are expected to take ownership of your work and your projects, establish deadlines, and communicate progress proactively
