Software Engineer - foreUP

foreUP provides the industry's best software for managing golf courses. We prove it every year by growing quicker than any other company in the space and servicing the most well-known courses around the nation. We run every aspect of a club including the restaurant, the reservation system, the pro shop, and retail store, their marketing, CRM, and member billing. Our strength is in the breadth of solutions we provide and our drive is to make it easier for these small club owners to provide the best experience. 


We are actively seeking candidates to fill a Software Engineer position. The Software Engineer position involves interacting with a variety of individuals internally and externally and at all levels of the organization. Candidate must be driven, organized, detail-oriented, and have excellent communication skills. This position also requires in-depth knowledge of modern PHP backend technologies and at least some familiarity working with, or an interest in learning, frontend JavaScript frameworks (we use Vue).



RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Ability to work with modern PHP frameworks (we use Symfony)
  • Ability to take an idea from concept to reality in an iterative and highly releasable manner
  • Ability to take design documents and turn them into functional code
  • Ability to work independently and with other members of the team, including Quality Assurance engineers
  • Comfortable refactoring/understanding legacy code and moving towards open standards
  • Comfortable with writing, editing, and maintaining unit/feature tests
  • Structured, disciplined approach to development, testing, and deployment.
  • Provide correct bug fixes
  • There is direct project oversight, but you are expected to take ownership of your work and your projects, establish deadlines, and communicate progress proactively
  • Manage time across multiple projects and tasks in a deadline-driven, team environment.
  • Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas.
  • Generate statistics and write reports for management and/or team members on the status of the programming process.
  • Self-management and time management are critical in this role.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of extensive experience with PHP, Modern Frameworks (Symfony, Laravel, etc.)
  • Front-end experience with HTML5, Vue, jQuery, SASS & CSS
  • Experience working with AWS and cloud-based web applications is a plus
  • General knowledge of proper SQL structure/table design
  • Experienced with Jira and Agile environments
