About the role


The EHS Program Manager is responsible for setting the strategic direction and overseeing all environmental, health, and safety programs across the organization. As a senior leader in operations, the EHS Program Manager will be responsible for establishing a strong culture of safety and sustainability, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and driving down operational risk.  

The EHS Program Manager will oversee the EHS department, developing policies to drive proactive risk management, training, and innovation, guiding incident prevention and response, and partnering with leadership to align safety and environmental practices with the company’s operational and strategic goals. 


What you'll do


Program Leadership & Compliance 

  • Lead and manage all aspects of environmental, health, and safety compliance across manufacturing and integration operations. 
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, management systems, and best practices aligned with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements. 
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permitting and reporting, including air emissions, hazardous/industrial waste, stormwater, and spill prevention. 
  • Oversee internal and external audits, inspections, regulatory reports, and information requests. 
  • Collaborate with management team to review and adapt Emergency Action Plan (EAP) 
  • Maintain a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence. 
  • Manage workers' compensation claims and insurance 

Risk Management & Continuous Improvement 

  • Conduct hazard assessments, risk analyses, and process safety reviews; maintain OSHA-required documentation and site-specific risk registers. 
  • Lead accident/incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive action programs. 
  • Monitor and analyze EHS performance metrics, trends, and KPIs to drive data-informed decision-making. 

Culture & Training 

  • Build and reinforce a strong safety-first culture across the organization. 
  • Design and deliver EHS training programs for all levels of the workforce, from frontline staff to executives. 
  • Lead safety committees, drills, and regular meetings to promote engagement, transparency, and accountability. 
  • Provide expert guidance to leadership on equipment selection, facility design, and workflow planning with a safety and environmental lens. 

Team & Resource Management 

  • Manage and develop EHS team members, ensuring high performance and professional growth. 
  • Oversee department budgets, resources, and tools to optimize program effectiveness. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to integrate EHS considerations into broader organizational strategies and projects. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, public health, or a related field. 
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in EHS roles within manufacturing, industrial, aerospace, maritime, or similar environments. 
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT). 
  • Proven experience developing and implementing effective EHS programs and management systems. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead investigations, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to influence across levels of the organization. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or PMP. 
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 implementation and auditing 
  • Experience managing workers’ compensation claims and insurance programs. 
  • Proven ability to engage teams, build culture, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 


US Salary Range

The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Equity in Forterra is included in most of our full-time, high-demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra’s overall compensation package. In addition to base salary and equity, Forterra offers competitive benefits for full-time employees including:
