About the role

• The AWS Cloud & DevOps Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing AWS cloud infrastructure and automation processes to ensure the secure, scalable, and efficient deployment of applications and services. This role requires a strong understanding of AWS DevOps practices, including infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud security. Additionally, expertise in Linux system administration is crucial for managing and optimizing cloud-based environments. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge AWS DevOps technologies, drive automation initiatives, and ensure robust, secure, and scalable cloud solutions with a strong focus on Linux system administration.

What you'll do

Infrastructure Automation: 

• Design, implement, and maintain cloud-based infrastructure using Terraform, ensuring Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles are followed. 

• Automate the provisioning and management of resources across various environments (development, staging, production).

AWS IoT Core and Edge Computing: 

• Set up and manage MQTT instances, Route53, EC2 + VPC, and other IoT technologies.
• Administer engineering Kubernetes clusters.

• Implement best practices for deploying and managing IoT solutions with AWS cloud services, ensuring reliability and security through tight collaboration with security and engineering.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting: 

• Implement and manage monitoring tools via CloudWatch to track system health, performance, and key metrics across infrastructure and application layers.

• Leverage Linux system administration expertise to diagnose and resolve performance or security issues in cloud-based environments. 

Collaboration and Support: 

• Work closely with development, security, and cloud engineering teams to ensure secure and efficient deployment of applications and services. 

• Be the first point of contact for engineering teams to guide implementation of cloud solution designs. 

Security and Compliance: 

• Implement encryption, key rotation, and access control measures to protect sensitive data. 

• Implement Forterra and industry best practices to secure cloud environments and ensure compliance to applicable standards.

Cloud Optimization: 

• Develop secure, highly available, cost-efficient cloud-native architectures utilizing the AWS Well-Architected Framework to modernize existing workloads.

• Manage AWS infrastructure related to CI/CD, connectivity, and data collection and analysis of autonomous vehicles. 

Incident Response & Operations: 

• Work with engineering, system admins, and DevOps teams to diagnose and solve high-level cloud application and connectivity issues. 

• Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards of code quality and thoughtful design. 

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or a related role, with a focus on AWS cloud infrastructure automation and continuous integration/delivery. 

• Strong experience with AWS services (IAM, VPC, Route53, Lambda, S3, EC2, RDS, IoT Core, etc.) and cloud best practices. 

• Proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and automation, including managing cloud resources, secrets, and keys. 
• Proficiency in Kubernetes management.

• Experience in AWS IoT Core and Edge Computing for scalable and secure device management. 

• Strong scripting skills in Python, Shell, or similar for automation and infrastructure management. 

• Knowledge of security best practices, including encryption, key rotation, and access control measures. 

• Proficiency in monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or ELK stack. 

• Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code and automation tools such as Terraform and Ansible. 

• Experience in Linux system administration, including in-depth knowledge of command line utilities, system optimization, and security. 

• Ability to balance technical needs against cloud costs while scaling new technologies to meet project requirements. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with IoT security and communication for devices. 

• Familiarity with MQTT brokers and best practices for scaling and securing IoT messaging systems. 

• Certifications in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform are a plus. 

• Experience with HashiCorp Vault for secret management and encryption. 

• Docker experience is a plus.

Education & Experience

• 3+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or a related role, with a focus on AWS cloud infrastructure automation and continuous integration/delivery.

US Salary Range
 $110,000—$150,000
 

The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Equity in Forterra is included in most of our full-time, high-demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra’s overall compensation package.
