Forterra uses a simulation environment to model the behaviors of our autonomous system in various environments and scenarios. The Simulation Test Engineer will work closely with various teams to create the capabilities to test specific scenarios, analyze results, identify defects, create reports, and analyze patterns in the data.
What You'll Do:
- Generate simulation capabilities to validate requirements and performance metrics
- Report on the simulation’s performance against the validation metrics and work closely with the simulation software team to resolve any issues or gaps in performance
- Automate and streamline the reporting of verification and validation metrics to increase feedback frequency
What We're Looking For:
- Strong understanding of fundamental math and physics principles: calculus, vehicle dynamics, forces, equations of motion, etc.
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment
- Experience and working knowledge of simulation for robotics and autonomous vehicle testing
- Ability to navigate a large code base and understand autonomy architecture at a high level
- Understanding of multi-threaded and asynchronous software models
- Experience with SOTIF standard ISO 21448, automotive industry safety standard ISO 26262, and/or MILSTD882E
- Ability to quickly master and apply complex software tools
- Excellent communication skills, initiative and ability to effectively gather any needed data from other engineers
What We Need:
- BS degree or greater in Computer Science
- At least 3 years of experience as a software developer or tester
- Demonstrated experience in Python and C++
- Experience with ROS and basic familiarity with ROS2
- Experience with Docker, Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, and other container management tools
- Working knowledge of key algorithms from at least one major robotics discipline (navigation, localization, perception, planning)
- Good understanding of client/server and event-driven communications, TCP/IP, network data transmission, data serialization
- Exceptional documentation and communication skills

US Salary Range
$110,000—$215,000
The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Equity in Forterra is included in most of our full-time, high-demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra’s overall compensation package. In addition to base salary and equity, Forterra offers competitive benefits for full-time employees including:
