About Us
Foundation is developing the future of general purpose robotics with the goal to address the labor shortage. https://foundation.bot
Our mission is to create advanced robots that can operate in complex environments, reducing human risk in conflict zones and enhancing efficiency in labor-intensive industries.
We are on the lookout for extraordinary engineers and scientists to join our team.
We expect that many of our team members will bring diverse perspectives from various industries and fields. We are looking for individuals with a proven record of exceptional ability and a history of creating things that work.
Our Culture
We like to be frank and honest about who we are, so that people can decide for themselves if this is a culture they resonate with. Please read more about our culture here https://foundation.bot/culture.
Who should join:
- You like working in person with a team in San Francisco. You deeply believe that this is the most important mission for humanity and needs to happen yesterday.
- You are highly technical - regardless of the role you are in. We are building technology; you need to understand technology well.
- You care about aesthetics and design inside out. If it's not the best product ever, it bothers you, and you need to “fix” it.
- You don't need someone to motivate you nor give you tasks; you get things done.
Why are We Hiring for this Role
- Lead architectural design and development of scalable cloud systems to support data ingestion, ML model deployment, remote diagnostics, and robot coordination.
- Own and evolve the fleet management platform, including real-time telemetry, mission dispatch, firmware updates, and health monitoring across a global deployment of humanoid robots.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with robotics, perception, ML, and DevOps teams to integrate on-device intelligence with cloud services.
- Implement data pipelines for ML model training, validation, and deployment, leveraging structured/unstructured data from sensors and operations.
- Drive best practices in cloud-native architecture, security, observability, and performance tuning.
- Mentor engineers, contribute to engineering excellence, and influence the technical direction of the company.
What Kind of Person are We Looking for
- Proven experience building and scaling distributed cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Strong programming skills in Go, Python, or Rust; experience with modern backend frameworks and microservices.
- Hands-on experience with IoT or robotics fleet management systems is highly preferred.
- Deep understanding of data pipelines, stream processing, and ML model deployment in production.
- Expertise in container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), event-driven architectures, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with robotic middleware (e.g., ROS) and protocols (MQTT, DDS, etc.) is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and a passion for mentoring and scaling high-performance teams.
- Experience with digital twin systems or remote simulation frameworks.
- Prior work in safety-critical systems or real-time monitoring environments.
- Contributions to open-source projects in cloud, robotics, or ML infrastructure.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a Staff-level or equivalent leadership role.
Benefits
We provide market standard benefits (health, vision, dental, 401k, etc.). Join us for the culture and the mission, not for the benefits.
Salary
The annual compensation is expected to be between $80,000 - $1,000,000. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
