Integration Engineer

About Us

Foundation is developing the future of general purpose robotics with the goal to address the labor shortage. https://foundation.bot

Our mission is to create advanced robots that can operate in complex environments, reducing human risk in conflict zones and enhancing efficiency in labor-intensive industries.

We are on the lookout for extraordinary engineers and scientists to join our team.

We expect that many of our team members will bring diverse perspectives from various industries and fields. We are looking for individuals with a proven record of exceptional ability and a history of creating things that work.

Our Culture

We like to be frank and honest about who we are, so that people can decide for themselves if this is a culture they resonate with. Please read more about our culture here https://foundation.bot/culture.

Who should join:

  • You like working in person with a team in San Francisco. You deeply believe that this is the most important mission for humanity and needs to happen yesterday.
  • You are highly technical - regardless of the role you are in. We are building technology; you need to understand technology well.
  • You care about aesthetics and design inside out. If it's not the best product ever, it bothers you, and you need to “fix” it.
  • You don't need someone to motivate you nor give you tasks; you get things done.

What Kind of Person are We Looking for:

  • System integration : Lead system integration of robotic subsystems including real time compute, AI inference compute, sensors, actuators, power management, and communication protocols into a unified humanoid platform.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, AI/ML, and software teams to ensure smooth end-to-end system functionality.
  • Debugging & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex integration issues at both the hardware and software levels during development and testing.
  • Testing & Validation: Develop and execute integration test plans to validate system performance, safety, and compliance across development stages.
  • Architecture Review: Participate in or lead system design reviews and suggest improvements to ensure modularity, scalability, and robustness.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed technical documentation, integration guides, and configuration control.

What You Will Do:

  • Proficient in systems-level debugging using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and software debuggers.
  • Strong understanding of embedded systems, sensor fusion, motion control, and real-time systems (e.g., RTOS, ROS 2).
  • Experience integrating vision systems, IMUs, force/torque sensors, and robotic actuators
  • Comfortable working with Linux-based systems and scripting (Python, Bash).
  • Experience with EtherCAT, and other communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with safety standards (ISO 10218, ISO 13849, etc.) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-ambiguity startup environment.
  • Experience with full-body humanoid systems or legged robotics.
  • Knowledge of AI integration or human-robot interaction.
  • Hands-on experience in rapid prototyping and hardware bring-up.
  • Contributions to open-source robotics tools or frameworks.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in integration of complex electromechanical systems; humanoid or mobile robots are highly preferred.

Benefits

We provide market standard benefits (health, vision, dental, 401k, etc.). Join us for the culture and the mission, not for the benefits.

Salary

The annual compensation is expected to be between $80,000 - $1,000,000. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
