About Us
Foundation is developing the future of general purpose robotics with the goal to address the labor shortage. https://foundation.bot
Our mission is to create advanced robots that can operate in complex environments, reducing human risk in conflict zones and enhancing efficiency in labor-intensive industries.
We are on the lookout for extraordinary engineers and scientists to join our team.
We expect that many of our team members will bring diverse perspectives from various industries and fields. We are looking for individuals with a proven record of exceptional ability and a history of creating things that work.
All positions are based in San Francisco
Our Culture
We like to be frank and honest about who we are, so that people can decide for themselves if this is a culture they resonate with. Please read more about our culture here https://foundation.bot/culture.
Who should join:
- You like working in person with a team in San Francisco You deeply believe that this is the most important mission for humanity and needs to happen yesterday.
- You are highly technical - regardless of the role you are in. We are building technology; you need to understand technology well.
- You care about aesthetics and design inside out. If it's not the best product ever, it bothers you, and you need to “fix” it.
- You don't need someone to motivate you nor give you tasks; you get things done.
Why are We Hiring for this Role:
- Design, develop, and test electrical systems for humanoid robots, including power distribution, signal integrity, and board-level electronics.
- Develop embedded circuitry for sensor integration, actuator control, and real-time communication.
- Collaborate with mechanical, software, and AI teams to ensure seamless integration across subsystems.
- Design and layout PCBs (rigid and flex), and work with fabrication vendors for rapid prototyping and production.
- Implement safety systems, battery management, and power regulation for mobile robotic platforms.
- Analyze and troubleshoot electrical issues from bench-level to full humanoid integration.
- Perform system-level validation and testing under real-world operational conditions.
- Document designs, test procedures, and compliance with applicable standards (e.g., CE, EMC, FCC).
What Kind of Person are We Looking for:
- Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad).
- Strong knowledge of embedded systems, motor drivers, sensors (IMUs, force/torque, vision), and communication protocols (SPI,EtherCAT, CAN, I2C, UART).
- Experience with power electronics: DC/DC converters, battery systems (Li-ion), power distribution.
- Solid understanding of EMI/EMC principles, grounding, shielding, and signal integrity.
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and test benches.
- Familiarity with ROS (Robot Operating System) or other middleware platforms.
- FPGA design and HDL programming (Verilog/VHDL).
- Experience with real-time systems and safety-critical hardware.
- Passion for robotics and human-centered engineering.
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in hardware design, preferably in robotics, automotive, aerospace, or embedded systems.
Benefits
We provide market standard benefits (health, vision, dental, 401k, etc.). Join us for the culture and the mission, not for the benefits.
Salary
The annual compensation is expected to be between $80,000 - $1,000,000. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
