Summary
We're looking for a Chief of Staff, Director of Legal Operations to join the Office of the Chief Legal Officer (CLO) at Anaconda. The CLO leads a variety of functions that shape how the company operates and scales, including Legal, Corporate Development, and IT. Legal spans corporate, commercial contracts, product counseling, privacy, AI governance, compliance and policy. Corporate Development covers strategic transactions and partnerships, open-source ecosystem work, and other strategic internal initiatives central to the company’s priorities. IT leads the internal infrastructure that supports all of the above at scale, plus company-wide AI transformation.
This role sits at the center of the Office of the CLO, reporting directly to the CLO. You'll own the Legal Ops function directly — managing a small team, running the budget, and driving the people, processes and technology initiatives — while also serving as a force multiplier for the CLO across all functions. This role sits on the legal leadership team and will work directly with leaders across departments. This person will have the support of the CLO’s executive assistant in furtherance of Chief of Staff responsibilities. The goal isn't just to keep things moving. It's to shape how they move and to measure progress towards that strategy.
What You'll Do
You’ll start with a deep dive on how the department and cross-functional partners operate today, and from there will own the build over the long haul. The proof shows up on what the CLO gets on a regular basis: reportable metrics that matter, real-time dashboard visibility into where the team stands in key areas, and a trusted (and trusting) partner who is fluent across data, influence, communications, and relationships.
- Strategic Partnership (Chief of Staff): Partner with the CLO and her leadership team to define and execute long-term strategy. Own operational planning cycles, including OKR processes, roadmap development, and cross-functional coordination to keep all internal and external functions aligned and moving.
- Legal Operations Leadership: Lead and develop the Legal Ops function, including direct management of the team. Own the global Legal budget, forecasting, and accruals. Lead the strategy for Legal-specific vendors — outside counsel, legal tech, e-billing — with a focus on data-driven performance and spend optimization. Maintain and evolve the Legal tech stack (CLM, e-billing, litigation tools) and design streamlined intake and triage systems for cross-functional partners.
- Reporting and Performance: Design and own the framework for tracking org performance. Build automated dashboards and real-time progress views, using AI to synthesize inputs across practice areas into actionable updates for the CLO and executive leadership.
- Cross-Functional Integration: Act as the strategic liaison between the CLO org and Finance, GTM, Customer Success, Product, Engineering and Marketing. Ensure all CLO departments are integrated into business decisions upstream, not handed things after the fact. Focus on critical cross-functional initiatives, including post-acquisition integration efforts as they arise.
- AI and Operational Tooling: Continuously identify and implement AI tools and workflows across the org. Build an ongoing practice of exploring where automation and intelligent tooling reduce friction and raise the quality of how the team operates, with a particular focus on doing so within the Legal function via the Legal Operations team roadmap.
Your Impact Will Be Measured Through
- Quality and velocity of CLO-level decision-making, including time-to-alignment and time-to-action on cross-functional priorities
- Stakeholder confidence in the CLO org's ability to communicate clearly and execute consistently
- Health of the Legal Ops function: budget accuracy, vendor performance, and tech stack utilization and AI transformation
- Reduction in coordination breakdowns across all functions within the CLO organization
- Adoption of shared planning, reporting, and accountability standards across the functions the CLO leads and interacts with most
What You Need
- You’ve led or built a Legal Ops function, not just contributed to one – you understand the difference between running the budget and owning the strategy behind it
- 10+ years in Legal Operations, strategy, business operations, or a similarly broad operational role, with clear progression in scope and responsibility
- Proven experience operating close to a CLO, General Counsel, or senior legal executive (and acting as an extension of them) in a growth-stage technology company
- Hands-on Legal Ops experience: budget management, outside counsel strategy, legal tech stack ownership (e.g., Ironclad, Brightflag, or comparable tools), and metric development (including systems required to deliver metrics)
- Strong analytical instincts: comfortable working with data, building financial models, and translating findings into decisions and recommendations for senior audiences
- Track record of producing high-quality executive communications — briefings, presentations, strategic documents — that are precise and direct, and that can be translated to effective company-wide communications
- Hands-on experience using AI tools to raise the quality and speed of how legal and operational work gets done
- Ability to hold ambiguity, prioritize under pressure, and move quickly without losing alignment
- A sense of humor, a bias for action, and the ability to simultaneously hold today’s to-do-list alongside tomorrow’s building-for-the-future
What Will Make You Stand Out
- An EQ that matches your IQ
- Background that spans legal or compliance depth alongside operational breadth — able to move between a contract escalation, a board-level narrative, and a cross-functional IT systems question in the same week
- Active participation in the legal ops or similar communities - both learning from peers and contributing as an industry-shaper
- Experience in or alongside a Strategic Operations, BizOps, or Corp Dev function, with familiarity with how Finance, GTM, or CS teams use data to make decisions
- You've worked in open-source, AI, or data-intensive technology companies and understand how the nature of the business shapes the problems Legal and Ops are solving
- A clear point of view on (and demonstrable experience showcasing) where AI changes what a lean, high-leverage legal org can deliver — with concrete examples of having acted on it
- You embody our values: Curious by Default, Build Together, Own It, and Lead with Guts and Heart — and our behaviors: Clarity, Care, and Candor
Why You'll Like Working Here:
- You'll thrive in a high-performance environment where results are recognized and rewarded
- Your work directly contributes to shaping the future of data science, machine learning, and AI in the enterprise.
- You'll work alongside a collaborative team that values diverse, thoughtful discussion, clarity and candor.
- You'll be supported by a culture that puts employees first - with flexible hours, a fully remote setup, and a genuine commitment to your wellbeing and growth.
