About the Role
Texas EMS School is seeking a resourceful, technology-minded professional to help build and improve online courses for future emergency medical services professionals.
Working closely with a subject matter expert, you will turn instructional content into organized, functional, student-friendly courses in Canvas, our learning management system. We need someone who can learn software thoroughly, explore its capabilities, troubleshoot problems, and make steady, timely progress.
Experience building or managing course content in a learning management system is required. Canvas experience is preferred, but we will consider candidates with relevant experience in another LMS who can learn Canvas quickly. EMS or clinical expertise is not required; you will work with experts who provide and validate that content.
This position works in person at our Abilene, Texas, location. Remote work is not available.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Build, organize, and update Canvas course modules, pages, assignments, quizzes, and supporting materials.
• Work with subject matter experts to convert content, notes, and feedback into clear online learning experiences.
• Explore and configure LMS features that support effective instruction and student progress.
• Investigate technical problems, reproduce reported issues, test possible solutions, and document findings.
• Distinguish among configuration issues, user misunderstandings, and possible software defects; seek vendor assistance when appropriate.
• Test courses from the student’s perspective, checking navigation, instructions, links, assessments, and completion requirements.
• Write and edit clear student instructions, short explanations, and internal documentation using correct English grammar and punctuation.
• Maintain consistent formatting, usability, and accessibility in course materials.
• Communicate progress, identify missing information, and raise obstacles early.
• Assist with WordPress website updates and development as skills and organizational needs allow.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Hands-on experience building, editing, or managing instructional content in a learning management system—not solely using one as a student.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar software and independently investigate how its features work.
• A practical, organized approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.
• Ability to write a clear, accurate paragraph and explain technical information in everyday language.
• Attention to detail and a willingness to test work before considering it complete.
• Ability to collaborate with content experts, ask useful questions, and apply feedback.
• Ability to manage priorities and complete work without continuous step-by-step direction.
• Availability to work on-site in Abilene, Texas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience developing courses in Canvas.
• Experience building or maintaining WordPress websites.
• Familiarity with basic HTML/CSS, course authoring tools, or instructional multimedia.
• Experience supporting online education, adult learners, or workforce training.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You learn our systems, establish a productive working relationship with our content experts, and move course development forward. Your work is accurate, easy for students to navigate, and thoroughly tested. When something does not work, you investigate thoughtfully, communicate clearly, and help find a workable solution.
