Substitute Teachers (Middle School)

Catlin Gabel School is seeking substitute teachers for our Middle School in the following areas:

 

  • English
  • Social Studies
  • Math
  • Spanish
  • Mandarin Chinese
  • French
  • Art
  • Science 
  • Physical Education (Wellness)


Middle School Teacher Substitute Pay:

1 unit* (1-2hrs) = $55.00

2 units (3-4hrs) = $109.00

3 units (5-6hrs) = $164.00

Full day = not to exceed $218.00

*1 unit equals 1 - 2 hours in the Middle School.


Substitute teachers work on an as-needed basis to cover teacher positions. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Enjoys working with adolescents
  • Ability to lead students with kindness, and in an inclusive and culturally competent manner
  • Positively establish, manage and maintain classroom behavior expectations
  • Some proficiency with technology (e.g. Zoom, google drive, basic internet-based tasks)
  • Ability to support students’ capacity to think critically, to infer, experiment and question using student-centered, experiential, and differentiated methods
  • Ability to successfully implement lesson plans and follow routines as described by the permanent teacher and institutional protocols
  • Cooperate in school-wide supervision of student and ensure student safety
  • Communicate effectively with faculty
  • Ability to adhere to on-campus safety protocols as outlined in the school’s pandemic management plan


INTERPERSONAL CONTACT

  • Frequent interactions with students, teachers, parents/guardians, and occasionally, outside professionals
  • Must be able to consistently and clearly communicate with children, colleagues, and families


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required; Masters preferred
  • Minimum 2 years’ classroom teaching experience
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role provides supervision and guidance for students.  It does not supervise other employees.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The requirements listed below are representative of physical requirements and may not be all-encompassing.  Incumbents must be able to perform job duties with or without accommodations.  Work is primarily performed in a classroom setting and may include occasional to frequent work leading students off campus activities.

  • The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position for lesson preparation, report writing, and collaborative meetings 40%-50% of the time
  • Requires mobility to traverse campus to accompany and assure the safety of children
    • This may include moving up and down stairs or hill between facilities multiple times throughout the workday
    • Bending, squatting, stooping and kneeling
  • Ability to occasionally lift up 20 pounds


Additions for Specialists (e.g. Woodshop, Art, etc.)

  • The person in this position must be able to work within various degrees of noise, activity, and materials/byproducts such as paint, wood, clay, dust, lacquer, etc.
  • Occasional lifting of 30-50 pounds in tools, wood and/or other teaching related materials


SCHEDULE

Substitutes are contacted to work on an as-needed basis throughout the school year (September-June) and subject to their availability.  A full day in the Middle or Upper School is 8:00 am-4:00 pm.
