About the role

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of Class A, B, and C trucks and trailers to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations. This role supports a fast-paced warehouse and distribution environment handling dry, refrigerated, and frozen dairy products. Must have strong diagnostic skills, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to work in varying temperature conditions.


What you'll do

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on diesel-powered Class A (tractor-trailers), Class B, and Class C vehicles
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and manual inspections
  • Service and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and exhaust systems
  •  Maintain and repair refrigeration units (reefers) used in cold and frozen product transportation (preferred)
  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all equipment meets federal, state, and company compliance standards
  •  Complete work orders, maintenance logs, and inspection reports accurately and timely
  •  Respond to road calls or emergency repairs as needed
  • Collaborate with drivers and transportation leadership to identify and resolve recurring equipment issues
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Follow all company safety policies, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • 2+ years of diesel mechanic experience (fleet or heavy-duty preferred)
  • Experience working on Class A, B, and C trucks required
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and inspection standards
  • Experience with refrigeration units (Thermo King, Carrier) preferred
  • Ability to use diagnostic software and tools
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Certifications

o   ASE Certification (T Series)

o   EPA Certification for refrigerant handling (preferred)

o CDL Class A or B (or ability to obtain preferred)

Physical Demands

  •  May require lifting to 75 lbs, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods

Work Environment

  • Work performed in shop and yard environments, as well as occasional roadside service
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, including refrigerated and freezer conditions
  • Flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on-call as needed
