Ground Support Equipment Mechanic II

Purpose

The Ground Support Mechanic II assists the Facilities and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Maintenance Liaison with the inspection, maintenance, and upkeep of the facility and equipment.

Essential Job Functions

•                     Service and operate all assigned ground support equipment, including tugs, large and small forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, aircraft jacks, hydraulic test stand, air start cart, diesel and electric driven mobile HVAC units, 400hz power converters, and diesel 400hz ground power units.

•                     Perform equipment troubleshooting and repair of all assigned ground support equipment.

•                     Perform periodic and annual inspections of assigned GSE per manufacturer's recommendations.

•                     Perform periodic inspections of tooling and slings per accepted industry standards.

•                     Perform basic carpentry, electrical, mechanical, air conditioning, plumbing, sheet metal fabrication, or associated work on plant facilities using power tools.

•                     Perform compliance inspections on life safety equipment as assigned.

•                     Perform compliance inspections and maintenance of assigned environmental collection and storage areas.

•                     Perform light janitorial duties as expected.

•                     Perform any other duties as assigned by the Facilities and GSE Maintenance Liaison.

Requirements

Required

•                     High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).

•                     At least two (2) years of documented work experience in automotive, heavy mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical work.

•                     Holds a current, valid driver's license, where required to perform the essential functions of the position.

Preferred

•                     Completion of a formal training program in automotive or heavy equipment mechanics, or equivalent work experience.

•                     Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably in the aviation industry.

•                     EPA HVAC Certification.

•                     Prior experience and/or certification in maintaining industrial HVAC, hazardous waste collection, and electrical/mechanical equipment.

•                     Light fabrication and welding skills.

•                     This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Working Conditions

•                     This position is considered INDUSTRIAL WORK, characterized as follows.

•                     Almost exclusively outdoors during the day and occasionally at night.

•                     Occasional exposure to airborne dust in the workplace.

•                     The work surface is stable (flat); requires climbing ladders and using lifts.

•                     Requires frequent walking, standing, and/or climbing, as well as working from an elevated boom lift up to 80 ft on occasion.

•                     This position is considered HEAVY work, with frequent lifting up to 20 lbs and occasional lifting up to 70 lbs; occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and reaching, with repetitive movements of arms and hands and seated work with back supported.
