Position Title: Assistant Construction Manager - SkillBridge

Position Location: Remote - work from anywhere in the United States. Must be located near a major airport.

Travel Requirements: Up to 75% domestic travel unless assigned to an extended project. Relocation may be considered for long-term project needs. Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to rent vehicles.


SALARY

This is a military transitional program that does not provide compensation through DLB. If selected for full-time employment with DLB upon completion of SkillBridge you will find that DLB recognizes salary ranges from job boards do not necessarily reflect our pay ranges. In many instances we out-compete those ranges for well-qualified candidates.


JOB SUMMARY

This opportunity is for military personnel participating in the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program. Ideally, the SkillBridge will be a minimum of 90 days in length. DLB is able to accommodate up to the full 180-day program and will consider durations less than 90 days. The Assistant Construction Manager - SkillBridge is an entry-level construction management role that builds upon foundational military experience in operations, maintenance, QA/QC, logistics, field leadership, safety, technical administration, or procedural compliance. This role provides field and project support across multiple phases of mission-critical and high-performance facility projects.


The Assistant Construction Manager - SkillBridge supports construction teams from pre-construction through field execution, turnover, and closeout. This position assists with project coordination, field documentation, reporting, safety and quality observations, schedule tracking, meeting support, and construction administration activities.


The Assistant Construction Manager - SkillBridge will develop a deeper understanding of construction management, owner’s representative responsibilities, project controls, commissioning readiness, and coordination across contractors, vendors, clients, and internal project teams. This role will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job and will work under immediate supervision.


This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Project Support & Coordination (35%)

  • Assist with coordination of project activities to support compliance with drawings, specifications, schedules, and project expectations.
  • Support meeting preparation, meeting minutes, action-item tracking, project logistics, and construction coordination activities.
  • Track project documentation such as submittals, RFIs, change orders, procurement items, punch lists, and closeout items using company systems.
  • Assist with updates to project schedules, budgets, dashboards, and internal tracking tools under supervision.
  • Support communication between DLB team members, clients, contractors, vendors, and trade partners.


Field Administration & Quality Support (25%)

  • Participate in field walks to observe construction progress, quality conformance, and safety expectations.
  • Document construction progress through photos, daily notes, field reports, logs, and issue tracking.
  • Assist with punch-list tracking, closeout documentation, testing verification, and commissioning readiness activities.
  • Escalate field concerns, documentation gaps, quality issues, or safety observations to the appropriate project leadership.
  • Support coordination with quality and commissioning teams during pre-functional, functional, and turnover activities.


Review Construction Related Design Documents, Drawings and Specifications (15%)

  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, submittals, and project documentation to build familiarity with construction requirements.
  • Assist with document control and organization of project records.
  • Support review of project scope, sequencing, and construction coordination requirements.
  • Develop an understanding of how design documents translate into field execution, testing readiness, and project closeout.


Reporting & Communication (15%)

  • Prepare or assist with weekly progress reports, visual updates, meeting notes, and internal project summaries.
  • Assist in communicating field metrics, schedule updates, open items, risks, and project status to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage assigned tasks, personal hours, and deliverables using company tools.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences in written and verbal formats.


Technology, Digital Tools & AI-Enabled Efficiency (5%)

  • Leverage AI-enabled and digital tools to enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and support consistent, high-quality work output.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and demonstrate a continuous learning mindset, seeking out new technologies, skills, and methods that elevate individual and team performance.
  • Adapt to emerging technologies and evolving digital workflows, actively supporting the integration and adoption of innovative tools across the organization.


Safety, Risk, and Compliance (5%)

  • Follow company and site safety requirements, including HSE and LOTO expectations.
  • Support documentation and reporting related to safety, quality, and compliance activities.
  • Identify recurring field or documentation issues and escalate concerns as appropriate.


Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL, UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE)

  • Must be a current participant of the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program.
  • Knowledge of fundamental construction, facilities, engineering, maintenance, logistics, or project coordination principles.
  • Ability to learn construction management practices, including scheduling, budgeting, coordination, documentation, quality tracking, and closeout processes.
  • Ability to learn commissioning processes for electrical, mechanical, controls, and life safety systems in mission-critical environments.
  • Skilled at using MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams, along with strong organizational skills for file management.
  • Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation.
  • Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication, organization, self-motivation, proactiveness, and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to follow company and site safety requirements.
  • Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports, meeting notes, and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form, including technical and non-technical information.
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
  • Ability to achieve certification for NFPA 70E and/or OSHA training as required.
  • Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

TRAVEL / RELOCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to rent vehicles.
  • Up to 75%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states.
  • Must be located near a major airport.
  • Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for travel associated with this position.
  • Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination and nature of the business need.
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meetings for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.
  • Potential for international assignments.

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Must be able to obtain NFPA 70E / OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certifications as required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction or related discipline.

OR

  • Two years’ experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation and troubleshooting of mechanical, controls and / or electrical infrastructure.

PLUS

  • Minimum three years’ additional experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation and troubleshooting of mechanical, controls and / or electrical infrastructure.
