About the role

The Product Owner / Business Analyst translates client business needs and design intent into clear, actionable requirements for web design and development engagements. This role owns business requirements and the associated backlog for approximately 2–3 concurrent client projects, ensuring the delivery team has a shared understanding of what needs to be built.

Fishtank operates in the enterprise space and partners with organizations, brands, and people to create original, thoughtful, and transformative digital experiences using current technology.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct discovery sessions and client conversations to understand business problems, objectives, and desired outcomes.
  • Create well-written, easy-to-understand user stories with clear requirements, acceptance criteria, applicable design links, developer notes, technical context, dependencies, and relevant edge cases.
  • Translate design-driven concepts into actionable requirements, recognizing that requirements may become more complete as designs are developed and refined.
  • Organize and maintain the product backlog so that work is clear, traceable, and ready for delivery.
  • Document decisions, open questions, assumptions, and changes to maintain shared understanding across stakeholders.
  • Facilitate backlog grooming sessions, including story walkthroughs, requirements review, clarification, acceptance-criteria alignment, and collaborative prioritization.

  • Work with the delivery team to define how the solution will address the business need using available technologies.
  • Facilitate a mutually agreed list of acceptance criteria between the client and delivery team.
  • Collaborate with other Product Owners, Project Managers, designers, engineers, QA partners, and client stakeholders.
  • Ensure requirements and design references provide sufficient context for build, QA, and user acceptance testing.
  • Provide requirements clarification throughout delivery.
  • Identify gaps, dependencies, and unanswered questions early.
  • Support content authoring, testing, client training, and project documentation as needed.
  • Escalate unresolved requirements or material scope changes through the Product Owner → Project Manager → Engagement Manager path.
  • Recognize that project-level tradeoffs and material scope decisions are made by the project team and client collectively, with appropriate approval.
  • Managing smaller projects may be an occasional development opportunity but is not a regular core responsibility of this role.
