Kraken Robotics is currently recruiting for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our Mount Pearl, NL office.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design mechanical components and systems in 3D CAD software, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, and project requirements. This position focuses on the Sub-Bottom Imager and Acoustic Corer sonar product line, their launch and recovery systems, and ROV and vessel interface equipment.
  • Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and simulation studies (stress, vibration, shock, thermal) to optimize designs for safety, performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Create and maintain clear, accurate engineering documentation (drawings, manuals, procedures). 
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate performance and requirements.
  • Contribute across the full product lifecycle—from concept and design reviews to build, test, and deployment.
  • Manage engineering data in PDM systems with strong version control and traceability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, systems, production, configuration management and project management.
  • Support sonar service campaigns through the solicitation of technical requirements from client/vessel/ROV and design + specification of the Engineering interface
  • Occasionally perform physical work including assembly, disassembly, maintenance, and testing of components.
  • Review technical deliverables and mentor junior team members.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent engineering discipline with 4+ years' experience.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with PEGNL.
  • Knowledgeable in general machine design. (Seals, bearings, gearboxes, drive mechanisms, brackets, bolted joints, etc).
  • Proficiency in CAD software for 3D modelling and mechanical simulation.
  • Understanding of engineering standards and design review processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate technical information clearly.


PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience with the following would be considered an asset:
    • Experience with Solidworks (CAD, Simulation and PDM).
    • Experience with ERP systems.
    • Experience with marine survey systems (ROVs, AUVs, sonar systems) or offshore operations considered an asset.
