Description

Thompson Software Solutions is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the development of embedded flight software and Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) capabilities for an advanced missile platform. This role offers the opportunity to design and integrate mission-critical software operating in high-performance, real-time environments where precision, reliability, and deterministic execution are paramount.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will develop embedded flight software, contribute to the architecture, design, implementation, integration, and verification of real-time systems supporting missile guidance, navigation, and control functions. You will work at the intersection of software, hardware, and control algorithms to ensure accurate sensor processing, state estimation, trajectory management, and actuator command execution under strict timing and performance constraints.

This position requires deep expertise in embedded and real-time software development, including low-level hardware interfaces, multi-threaded and deterministic system design, integration with GNC algorithms, and operation within safety- and mission-critical frameworks. Experience supporting hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments, simulation integration, system-level test, and flight qualification activities is highly valued.

You will collaborate closely with software engineers, GNC engineers, systems engineers, integration and test teams, and program leadership to mature capabilities from lab development through system qualification and flight test.

The successful candidate will join a high-performing software engineering team focused on delivering next-generation missile capabilities. This role requires strong systems thinking, exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills, and the ability to lead in a fast-paced, high-consequence development environment where performance and reliability are mission critical.

Selected applicants will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Continued eligibility for access to classified information is required throughout employment, as dictated by program needs.

Basic Requirements

●      Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline

●      5+ years of embedded software development

●      Experience developing embedded software in C/C++

●      Experience with I&T integration and test. 

●      Experience with Full Lifecycle Software Development

●      Experience with (FSW) Flight software engineering

●      Proficient with Linux and Windows development environments

●      Ability to professionally communicate project status and collaborate on technical solutions with clients and peers

●      Active Secret Clearance Required

●      Ability to work onsite 100%

●      Perform additional job duties as assigned.

Preferred / Additional Skills

●      Proficient with Atlassian Tools (Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket, etc.)

●      Proficient in Python development

●      Familiarity with Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools (Cameo, AADL)

●      Experience with Digital Simulation Development and integration

●      Experience with safety-critical software development and practices (DO-178C)

●      Experience with Navigation, Guidance and Control Implementation

●      Experience with Signal Processing Implementation

●      Experience developing Embedded Flight Software

●      Experience communicating and documenting complex technical designs

●      Ability to work in a collaborative and team-based environment

●      Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
