Position Summary

The Software Business Analyst serves as the bridge between business stakeholders and the software engineering team. This person gathers and analyzes software requirements, translates them into clear functional specifications and user stories, and guides those requirements through an Agile/Scrum development process from intake to delivery. Success in this role requires strong facilitation and communication skills, comfort interviewing and presenting to stakeholders at all levels, and the analytical rigor to turn ambiguous business needs into requirements engineers can build from.

Key Responsibilities

  • Elicit and document software requirements from internal stakeholders, customers, and subject matter experts.
  • Translate business needs into clear, well-structured functional specifications for the engineering team.
  • Plan and conduct stakeholder interviews and requirements workshops to uncover business needs, pain points, and success criteria.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations of requirements, findings, and proposed solutions to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Partner closely with software engineers and QA throughout the development lifecycle to clarify requirements, answer questions, and validate that delivered functionality meets intent.
  • Write clear, well-formed user stories and acceptance criteria, and maintain them on the team’s Scrum board (Azure DevOps).
  • Groom and prioritize the product backlog in collaboration stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct gap analysis between current and desired business processes to identify the root problem behind a stated request.
  • Experience creating process flow diagrams, wireframes, or mockups to align stakeholders before development begins.
  • Proven experience maintaining requirements traceability across specifications, user stories, and test cases.
  • Support QA and user acceptance testing by developing test scenarios/cases and validating that delivered features meet acceptance criteria.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and the engineering team, managing expectations and communicating status, risks, and trade-offs, in preparing release notes, training materials, and internal/external documentation for new features.
  • Monitor industry, competitive, and regulatory trends in healthcare/ophthalmology software to inform requirements and prioritization.
  • Support post-release monitoring by gathering user feedback and identifying opportunities for enhancement.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the team’s Agile practices, templates, and documentation standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with software or SaaS products in healthcare, EMR, or medical practice management.
  • Familiarity with SQL and API/data concepts, or sufficient technical fluency to discuss system design with engineers.
  • Experience creating wireframes or mockups using tools such as Figma or Visio.
