Role Purpose
This is a senior, hands-on surveying role at the centre of our fire safety compliance and remediation work. You will lead fire risk assessment and survey instructions across residential, mixed-use and complex portfolios — from Type 1 through to intrusive Type 4 assessments, external wall appraisals and compartmentation surveys — and turn what you find on site into clear, defensible advice our clients can act on. You will also act as a checker and technical reference point for others, and your expertise will directly shape how a growing consultancy delivers.
We are equally interested in fire surveyors and building surveyors with strong fire competence. If you can evidence the competence to deliver all or most of the responsibilities below, we would like to talk to you.
Senior Fire Surveyor – Job Description (Core Responsibilities)
Desirable Skills
Personal Skills:
· Excellent attention to detail and analytical thinking;
· Strong report-writing skills, with the ability to evidence findings and justify recommendations;
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including with residents and building occupants on site;
· Ability to work independently and manage your own diary across multiple sites;
· Proactive approach to problem-solving and technical challenges;
· Commitment to professional development and continuing education;
· Strong time management and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently;
· Sound judgement in knowing when to escalate and when to decide;
· A personable, down-to-earth manner with colleagues, clients and the residents you meet on site.
Who We Want
Someone at senior level who takes genuine pride in their craft — who doesn’t cut corners, who cares about the quality of what goes out the door, and who wants to be part of something growing with real purpose.
Just as importantly, we only employ nice, personable people. Technical competence gets you through the door, but how you treat your colleagues, our clients and the residents you meet on site matters to us just as much. We are still small enough that every appointment shapes the culture, and we look after that carefully. If you are the sort of person people are glad to see turn up on site and easy to work alongside, please do apply.
Qualifications/Experience:
· Minimum: Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety (or equivalent demonstrable competence);
· Ideally: Level 5 in Fire Engineering Design or Level 5 in Fire Risk Assessment;
· A real bonus: RICS Level 6 in External Walls;
· A degree or HND/HNC in fire engineering, building surveying, building services or a related discipline is welcome but not essential where competence is otherwise evidenced;
· Membership of, or working towards membership of, a relevant professional body (IFE, RICS, CABE, CIOB or equivalent);
· Typically 5+ years’ relevant experience in fire risk assessment, fire surveying or building surveying with a strong fire safety focus, at senior level;
· A portfolio or sample reports that evidence your competence across the responsibilities above;
· Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to site.
· CSCS card holder
Above all, we are looking for demonstrable competence. If you can evidence the knowledge, experience and professional judgement to deliver the work described above, we want to hear from you.
Sub-Contractor Engagement
Our preference is a permanent appointment, but we are open to engaging the right individual on a sub-contract basis. This suits someone who values flexibility and autonomy but still wants to be embedded within a growing consultancy where their contribution genuinely matters — a long-term, trusted working relationship rather than ad-hoc instructions.
What we would need from a sub-contractor:
Day rates will be discussed on application and will reflect experience, competence and availability. The benefits set out below apply to permanent employees.
Benefits
In addition to working with fantastic colleagues, we offer the following benefits:
Time Off & Flexible Working
Health & Wellbeing
Culture & Community
Career Development
Additional Perks
Work Location
This role is remote, combining site-based surveying, working from home and time in our London hub in Farringdon. The balance will flex with the demands of live instructions: some weeks will be heavily site-based, others largely desk-based for reporting and review. Travel to client sites is a core part of the role and business travel and expenses are covered. Where the team is collaborating, checking work together or meeting clients, we come together in Farringdon.
We prioritise diversity and inclusion and are proud to hold a Diversity Mark accreditation, recognising the importance of representing our diverse customer base. We strive to attract the best talent and create an environment that supports and includes all individuals.
Interview Process
Our goal is to keep the interview process fairly simple to keep you engaged, but thorough enough to help us each understand if we’re a good fit for each other.
This is what the process will look like for this role:
Step 1: 15-min initial meeting with the HR Manager to discuss your background and experience, so that we can understand if your skills and expertise match what we’re looking for.
Step 2: 60-min in-person meeting with the Fire Risk Management Director and a member of our Senior leadership team. This may include a short practical exercise, a case study, or a discussion of a redacted survey report you have authored.
Throughout the process we’ll give you insights into Axion and Riskhub, our current product suite and vision for the future. We welcome any questions as we want to make sure you’re joining a team and company you’ll be excited to be part of.
If you’d like to, we’ll also be able to arrange for you to meet more people from the team.
How to Apply
If you can demonstrate the skills and experience outlined above, we'd love to hear from you. Please get in touch with your CV for an informal, confidential conversation.
Equally, if you know someone who would be perfect for this role, please pass it on or put them in touch. The best people usually come through trusted recommendations.
